Your best tips please for a new camper with a (little) budget to get us ready for our first trip! We have the main stuff (er....tent and beds!) what would you never be without?

Oh, and I think I probably fit into the 'glamper' category although I am prepared to forego the fairylights after some stern advice from Slubber.....

so....help please!

DP. He can produce a roast dinner, including roast potatoes, on 2 fire pots and a barbecue. But he's not for sale!

Dh is rolling his eyes and muttering darkly about trailers....... Heh heh

My duvet and pillows - I hate horrid sleeping bags - and my lovely comfy fat airics.

Oh, and my DH for packing the car, putting the tent up, unpacking, setting everything up and then the reverse for coming home. He says he likes 'being camping' not 'going camping' - poor love.....

giggly · 30/04/2010 22:41

I'm with wiggle on the duvets and pillows, oh and a small child is warmer than dh at night.
Best find for us was taking Itouch for dd who watched it in bed with it balanced in her potty. Empty potty of course!

Bacon! (Trangia also useful as I don't recommend eating raw bacon).

I always forget the washing up liquid.

I recommend taking a first aid kit.

nagoo · 02/05/2010 14:18

Remember sharp knife and corkscrew.

CaurnieBred · 06/05/2010 22:37

Rubber gloves - washing out in the (quite often) cold water can be horrible.

Old coths/towels to wipe the groundsheet off with.

Dustpan and brush.

Pegs.

Warm socks for night time!

piratecat · 06/05/2010 22:38

hot water bottle

Portofino · 06/05/2010 22:42

A tent!

sallyJayGorce · 06/05/2010 22:43

A hotel.

overthemill · 06/05/2010 22:47

i always take my duvet - makes me cozy and my thermal long johns as pjs! Matches, little toaster thing for toasting on the gas ring - and stove top coffee maker.

MegBusset · 06/05/2010 22:51

Lidded crates -- two or three to keep all your bits and bobs in, can sit nicely in your living area.

Torch

Stove and pans

Picnic set

Matches and/or lighter

Swiss army knife

Firelighter fluid if using disposable BBQs as half the time they don't light properly

Small dustpan & brush for sweeping out grass & mud from the groundsheet

Corkscrew

Wine, biscuits and teabags

Kitchen roll and bog roll

Portable washing line, string between trees to hang up your damp towels

FiveOrangePips · 06/05/2010 22:51

Kelly kettle, for speedy coffee/tea first thing, no worrying about wasting the gas on making lots of tea to keep you warm

Oblomov · 06/05/2010 22:55

i'm with the wine. and decent large wine plastic glasses. essential. i drank 2 bottles of rose during this bank holiday weekend. and intend to do the same at witsun.lovely.

Oblomov · 06/05/2010 22:57

lol at us campers. talk about home comforts.

mybabywakesupsinging · 10/05/2010 22:08

trangia
tea-making equipment + insulated cups
wine
sausages
chocolate
my priorities are obvious.

mybabywakesupsinging · 10/05/2010 22:10

the dc also eat unbelievable amounts of cake food when camping, too
