Camping chat...

Does anyone fancy some camping chat with a relative newby?

I've spent an expensive interesting week buying all I need for camping, having decided that our little 4 berth Argos special just isn't good enough any more.

I've bought one of these and despite the reviews it is actually very very easy to pitch (although too big for our garden so couldn't see the full benefit of it ) along with a larder, stove stand, some picnic blankets and a folding table.

We're considering using an EHU but haven't quite made up our minds. I'm sure we could manage without it but it might be nice

Dh and I made up a fully comprehensive camping checklist, I've washed all the plates etc, written a list of what we need to buy, planned our meals and reviewed a million campsites.

Next camping trip isn't until early June and I'm so excited it seems like eons away!

Has anyone taken their tent abroad? We're thinking about trying a French site at some point...

nice tent neatfreak. We had ours out in the garden on saturday. The dcs were besides themselves with excitement. I was given this one for my birthday. It has a sunroof.

I can't wait for the first trip of the year. We are going to Skipton for a weekend in June then a week in the lakes in july.

Hello, we went camping at the weekend with our new VW Caravelle (not a camper van, but has a fridge, table and back seats make a bed - we are thinking of adding a pop up roof bed and an awning, but it is our main vehicle, so not sure yet), a very old tent (decided to just take DH's 2 man tent, years old) and a new stove/larder, etc, prob the same as yours. We had not been for 4 years! The last time was when I was pg with DS, and am now pg again and DS is nearly 3 1/2. So it was sort of an experimental trip.

What would you use the EHU for do you think?

Where are you going camping?

We haven't been abroad yet, but I think now we have the van, it's a definite, though not for a good couple of years I don't think (due in October). I think it would just be France, and would take our time to travel there - not sure we would take all our own stuff though, the campsites there are supposed to be great and it's not expensive to use the tents that are already set up, a friend of mine does it every year.

Hiya

I got back from our first camping trip last night, we went to the motorhome show at the Peterborough showground, was lovely to be back in our tent!!

Last year we took our tent to France, we spent 3 weeks touring with it and it was fantastic!

NeatFreak · 26/04/2010 09:55

Ooh, that is a nice tent!
I'm trying to persuade dh to go on an impulse trip this weekend but am having little success!

I'm heartened by these stories. We're going to the Cotswolds.
I guess an EHU would be used for a kettle mainly! Also, maybe a radio and mini fridge, although probably only for longer breaks.

I think we're off for 2 nights weekend after next (trying to avid the bak hol), just to a local site in the forest of dean to check all the kit OK for the trip to pembrokeshire at Whitsun. Starting to get excited now.

We haven't ahd to buy a new tent since we got the outwerll though we came close to getting a teepee a frew weeks back #9outwell type, inner rooms a must) we've not hit on a vaude if our tent carks it, but sticking with what we have as we lurve it (2008 sun valley)

I like the pitches you get with an ehu. You seem to get more space generally and are closer to the loos. Not really necessary though for us.

PinkoLiberal · 26/04/2010 10:05

NF we go to Chrsitchurch.

We're in east wales so a 30-40 minute journey is all

NeatFreak · 26/04/2010 16:25

I might check out Christchurch; it does seem to have pretty good reviews (and we can escpae home quickly if the weather turns- fair weather campers here!)

Christchurch is nice oif you want to be close to the play area and shop; bracelands just down and nice iof you prefer the viewws over the shop

both good, our favourite regular sites

NeatFreak · 26/04/2010 20:18

I'll definitely be checking them out during the summer, thanks.

Just submitted and bought an EHU so we are now officially sorted for LONG camping holidays, even when it rains!
