1o month old in a caravan - where does she sleep?

We are going away in an average-sized touring caravan shortly and don't know what to do about dd's bed! Travel cot is too big, I don't fancy putting her in caravan bunks even with guard rail cos she sits up as soon as she is awake and I'm scared she will roll out. Am thinking about buying one of those padded dog beds to make a little nest on the floor for her, but it sounds terrible - "my baby sleeps in a dog bed" ! Any ideas?

Why bother with a bed? Just fold up a blanket and put it on the floor. Put her in bed with you. Use a cardboard box. Take one of the mattresses off the bunk and put it on the floor.

when my dd was 10 months and we went in our caravan we put her in a moses basket on the floor. She filled it from top to bottom but didnt care.

Sue W's ideas are very good.

We took the back lower bunk out and put a small cot (ikea i think) in there as dd would not sleep in anything that wasn't cot like! It wasn't difficult in ours, just a few bolts and we put it back in when we decided that caravans and two fussy babies dont mix! If your go away a lot in it it might be worth seeing if you could do that.

Be careful about the windows in caravans - they mostly open out all of the way and my husband let my daughter fall out of one!! Luckily there were bushes at the bottom of the 12 foot drop!!

There was a great travel cot being advertised on Mumsnet home page yesterday and it gave you the chance to win one. Why don't you email they guys on Mumsnet and see if you can enter, they only seem to keep the comps up for a day. It's a long shot but worth it, it was very slimline and cool looking but v expensive!

sassy, did you find a solution? we have a 15month old very active sleeper. I don't think we could put a travel cot in anywhere.

Ooh, I've just looked at the original date on this thread!

When I was a toddler I used to sleep in an open suitcase lined with blankets/sheets

Not that I remember of course but apparantly I never grumbled Grin

Oops! Me too Grin

We have used a sleeping bag folded up on the floor. Or what about one of those ready beds?

sassy · 06/06/2006 13:47

Lol at this thread being resurrected!

She slept in bed with me in the end leogala!

hmmm, I like the suitcase idea! He did sleep in a washing basket at PILs when he was really small but he's a bit big for that now.

This weekend is our first weekend away in it. We pick it up on Friday leave for the weekend. So we may have to suffer this weekend and work something permanently out for hte next trip.

Ds sleeping with us means we don't sleep!

When ours were little we put them in the bottom bunk with one of those soft bedsides on it. Fortunately out bunks go behind the washroom so it meant that they were almost entirely enclosed!

DD2's now nearly 3, and did spend a couple of nights when we were away last week between us in the big double!!

Orinoco · 06/06/2006 21:18

Actually, thinking about it I have seen a contraption somewhere that was like a net that enclosed them.. no idea where though, maybe I dreampt it!!
