No toilet??

ebayaddict · 15/04/2010 08:09

We go to one with no showers. It just has a couple of toilets in a shed (provide own loo roll) and a sandpipe tap for all water.

It fine - the kids take a bath / stripwash in one of the big plastic trug things and we have to boil a kettle for washing up.

Field above a beach where you have to walk down to the beach to use the public loos/get water. Farmer sees you arrive from his house and drives into the field to charge you a fiver for the night. Best camping in the world, can't wait for their very limited season.

Would need toilets, showers and hot water - anything else not really necessarty. We did try an 'eco-campsite' which only had a compost toilet and no showers or hot water but it was only for one night - it was a lovely spot with huge pitches but just too basic for us.

faddle · 15/04/2010 19:52

no ghd's? using the stove to toast instead of taking the toaster?
seriously in awe of some of the hardcore campers on here..........

Wiggletastic · 15/04/2010 19:59

We are going camping with friends soon and the DH has asked which child should get left behind so DW can take her portaloo (for which they have an extra sleeping pod in their huge tent!), her hairdryer, GHDS, heater - need I go on....

MisSalLaneous · 15/04/2010 20:13

Depends for how long you're going. If just one or two nights, all I'd want is a toilet, but hot shower would be good addition. I'm filthy.

faddle · 15/04/2010 20:19

um, actually, that was one of my biggest criteria that the tent had 3 bedrooms so I could have a room for the loo
In my defence, I do have a very weak bladder and need the loo 3 or 4 times in the night.... which is no fun when its bloody cold and the loo is half a mile treck.

Oblomov · 15/04/2010 21:07

Rough it ? No No no no no. I don't rough it at all. I want for nothing when I am in my caravan.
10 showers. washing up sinks. washing machine.

MilaMae · 16/04/2010 14:31

Thanks

So how many showers and loos can be classed as roughing it? Dp is twitchy about the 2 showers(there are loos). I can't see the problem myself or have I got my rose tinted specs on?

Incidently has anybody used a Bog in a Bag (I think thats what he said it was). Sounded like a travel potty thing for adults,I haven't seen a picture-dp is musing over it for night wees-yes that is how twitchy he is

Pre-DC, we would go really rough, just a farmers field in the middle of no where and nowt else. I seriously considered buying a she-wee

Now with the DC, we stick with the ones with basic toilets, showers and running water. Anything else such as hot water, park, shop, animals to pet etc is all a bonus.

Exogenesis · 17/04/2010 20:07

We stayed at one last summer in the peak district with 2 toilets and 1 shower (which was con operated) it was at the top of a rather large hill in a field (no pitches) on a working farm.. £5 per adult per night DD free LOVELY

fluffles · 17/04/2010 20:26

it's nowhere near roughing it if there are ANY hot showers - come on!

roughing it is no flush toilets.

just nice is a small site with a couple of toilets and one shower.

horrid is a giant site with a massive flourescent lit toilet block with people using hairdryers

IMO.

mybabywakesupsinging · 17/04/2010 21:13

When I went with my family as a child - septic point and cold water tap only.
I have a deal with DH that we will never go anywhere without real toilets and flushing showers.

mybabywakesupsinging · 17/04/2010 21:14

I mean hot showers! must keep the rules, or no more camping...

I did my roughing it days at school doing DofE, no showers, no toilets, field of highland cattle over brow of hill praying they don't move in the night... they did...

Nowadays a toilet and shower are essential. I like to get clean in a morning.
Shop and pub are a bonus, but not one I'm willing to pay much for.
Children's play area I've decided at the moment is a negative. DD is too young to let her wander, and I don't want to spend hours sat in a playground, or deal with the tantrums when I insist it's time to leave playground.
