What do you like specifically about each? Both being outwell are great but does one suit your sleeping needs better?
Doesn't the Vermont have a wardrobe?

tootootired · 14/04/2010 18:26

I have a different model tunnel tent and I like having a straight front wall and canopy like the Florida - it gets used as a semi-outside cooking area. BUT then in horrible weather we end up using windbreaks and towels to shelter the person doing the cooking. I would say the Florida for a fairweather camper and the Vermont for all-seasons.

Can you not find a tent show - makes a great day out

Is it wrong that i was so excited about the exhibitions??

We've got a Vango. Fab.

LOL @ over!

Well to be honest i think they are both much of a muchness inside LOL!!!

I did like the vermont as it the bit at the front which i could use for a kitchen, but you can also buy a front awning for the flordia which could be used for the same thing....

The vermont is alot dearer but when you add up all the bits and pieces ie carpet, footprint and awning they differ in price by £9.98.....you can buy a side awning for the vermont though but it is £229.99!

Still undecided!

You don't need tent carpet though

Nattynoos · 14/04/2010 19:05

Dont you think so?

We got a Florida 6 last year and I love it. It's fantastic for week long camps. We have the awning extension to go with it and that means we can leave all of the cooking bumph outside. The rails at each side are fab for towels etc.

The review that I did for UKcampsite is here under user name nikid21.

If you click on the nikkid21 at the top of the review it goes to my profile which has a couple of photos of the pitched tent with extra awning on.

The family that we go camping with have a vermont L. The front area with the slopey bit was pretty useless as the rain came in when they opened the door. They ended up leaving the optional groundsheet for that part up and kept all their cooking equipment on the grass inside.

The wardrobe area was a bit of a waste of the living room space as well. In the florida we just keep the suitcase and clothes in the gap between the bed pods. It blocks that back door but we only use the front anyway.

One last thing on the Florida - it's bloody heavy. The initial left takes some doing with the 2 of us and I struggle to ligt the pole bag. I've had to go and but a Easycamp Boston 500 this year so that I can take the dc's on my own.

If you have any specific q's ask away. I'll keep an eye on the thread.

Thanks for this ebay....ive just gone on and had a look at the reviews.....all good!

Its a pity about the front awning bit though, as i thought that it would be a good idea to put all the kitchen bits in there and at least it would be in from the weather if it rains...your awning extension makes it look huge!

Could you tell me what type of car you have as it also sounds huge as well as heavy....we have a vectra - boot version not hatchback....do you think it would fit?

No Natty, I personally don't think you need carpets, awnings, etc. when camping, but bare in mind I am a minimalist camper with a tiny tent that is only used for sleeping in , sleep with a sleeping bag straight on the tent floor and don't own any camping 'furniture' and most people, campers included, prefer a lot more comfort than I usually tolerate

So, if you have the money and the car space and don't have aspiratins to be a minimalist camper, go for the tent carpet and ignore me!

Slubberdegullion · 14/04/2010 19:59

lol a omdb and carpet interjections.

i actually devised a 'what sort of mn camper are you?' quiz on the way back from Wales last week (long trip). there was a tent carpet question

ebayaddict · 14/04/2010 21:36

I have a ford fusion but the tent stuff all goes in a trailer. It would fit in the boot but that would be tent only with no room for clothes, bedding or cooking stuff

overmydeadbody · 15/04/2010 10:57

lol slubber, I would love to see that!

PS you'll be pleased to know airics have arrived and we will be using them this weekend

melrose · 15/04/2010 13:22

Oh, watching with interest as I am looking at the same Outwells - went to a tent show but they did not have the Florida on display! Also like the Ohio, any thoughts? (Have told DH we will absolutely not buy a new tent until after her summer hols to France in August, but we'll see..)

Wiggletastic · 15/04/2010 19:44

I would LOVE a Florida, it is my ultimate camping desire (but DH too mean to even consider any new tent let alone a really big expensive Outwell one ). I like it because of the space, wardrobe/storage area and porch for cooking stuff. V. if you get one...

BariatricObama · 15/04/2010 19:47

is there not a point where the sheer bigness of the tent defeats teh whole purpose of camping? i am agog at some of the monstrosities i see nowday [gimmer camper emoticon]

Batteryhuman · 15/04/2010 19:56

I'm with you I think BO. Those 2 tents are HUGE! There would be no pitch left to sit out on, play on etc. Do they take an age to put up? And do you need a lorry to transport them?

ebayaddict · 15/04/2010 22:03

No lorry, just a trailer. Dh and I can get it up, pegged and guyed in 45 mins.

We camp for 1 or 2 weeks at a time so the space is needed for the inevitable rainy days. We tend to camp at sites where you pitch where you like and pitch size isn't a issue. The Florida with awning fits on a regular c&cc club pitch anyway.

I've camped in tiny 3 man tents but with 2 dc it's no fun for them cooped up. I'm 5ft 9 and really wanted full standing height over the whole tent.

Can't give any feedback on the Ohio as I only really researched the Florida and Vermont when we were looking last year.
