sleeping bags for 1 yr old

I need some expert family campers advice please!

We are going to be camping in the Pyrenees for a week in July to watch a couple of stages of the Tour de France. Because we will be quite high up it will probably be fairly chilly at night. Any recommendations for sleeping bags/sleep wear for a one year old? Any other top tips welcome.

Thanks

I would get a ready bed, which is an inflatable bed with an attached sleeping bag, it even has an inflatable attached pillow, although I would stiil use a roll up ground mat underneath it, as I don't think they are specifically for camping,it also comes with its own foot pump. They aren't overly warm so you could get one of those all in one sleep suits to put on over pjs

Thanks tooty. I will take a look.

Have you thought about putting a sheepskin underneath the baby? When my baby was 8 months I used the Phil and Teds cosytoes underneath him. We were in Derybyshire in October which was a bit hardy.

you can get baby sleeping pods, will get a link for you in a bit

vango nitestar

vango escape

not pods, sorry, the pods are for older kids. airbeds are cold to sleep on, are you driving/taking the travel cot? a foam mattress would be much warmer underneath if you can spare the space.

thrifty - what age do you think the baby sleeping bags would go up to? My DD is 14 months old. I didn't know you could get such a thing!

thrifty · 14/04/2010 08:17

mcdreamy. If you google vango nitestar, i believe they come in different sizes, baby, toddler and child. You might need a toddler sized one. I have no direct experience of them as ds (4) uses a full sized sleeping bag, though i'm sure there are people on here who have. I am tempted to get ds a kids sleeping pod though cos he does get a bit twisted in a full sized mummy bag.

Thanks all. I think we are taking our travel cot which has a foam base raised slightly off the floor. I might pop a sheep skin under his sheet for extra insulation. The Vango nitestar looks good and I think I saw one for sale on mumsnet. Blimey, we are going to look like we are emigrating at this rate. My biggest worry is DS waking the entire campsite in the middle of the night!

Hi I was selling my vango baby on here but think it's sold now! They are fab though - DS is 2yrs 7 months and just finished with it. We've just been away and he could still get in just not snuggled down as far as he used to be!! he is not happy about it going though

McDreamy · 14/04/2010 21:46

Oh thank you, I think I might get DD one. She is 14 months and we're planning on camping quite a bit this year.

McDreamy · 14/04/2010 21:49

Which is better the nitestar or the escape?

maxybrown · 14/04/2010 21:54

We have the nitestar, it is very cosy, always fancied it myself

bellamysbride · 16/04/2010 19:11

Thanks maxybrown, the nitestar it is! My DP will be thrilled. He has only just been persuaded that his 2 man bright orange canvas vango tent won't cut the mustard for family camping. So he will be happy that the vango brand will live on .
