Thinking of hiring a Bongo- can kids 2 car seats fit in it?

We went to look at them today at a rental place but the guy said there is only one 3 point harness in the rear. We have 2 ds's (age 8 months and 2.5 years). DS2 could sit in the rear, with me using the lap belt o the seat next to him and DS1 could go in the front passanger seat, but I think only if the airbag is disabled?

So my qu is, can the airbag be disabled to allow a car seat up front?

How do you transport young kids in campervans?! And do campervans plus 2 young kids mix or would it be hell on earth?

Our bongo doesn't have a passenger seat airbag - are you sure the one you want to hire does? WhAt sort of conversion is it? Have youvthought about where you're going to sleep?

Yes it def had an airbag as I saw the sign on the dashboard in front of the passanger seat. It is a conversion with the cooker, fridge etc inside behind the drivers seat (ie not the one with the facilities in the boot, I think I've seen them somewhere). I think I'd sleep upstairs with DS2 and DH would be downstairs with DS1, though I've not really thought it through! Would it be easy enough to do that do you think? I'm not sure where we would put all our stuff though, we would need to take the pram for example... and there is no boot. Hmmmm.

Hmmm.

Right, we love our Bongo with a passion, but.......

The roof space is not particularly large or easy to get in and out of. In fact the whole van is a bit small for a family to spend more than one night in, particularly with a lot of gear. We are very good at minimalist holidays, but we still take a pop up tent for the children to sleep in. That way we can use the roof space to stow stuff when we stop for the night. I'm guessing your children are too little for this. And I'm not sure where you'd put the pram.

Someone I know has just bought a bongo and they have invested in an awning, for the reasons you have stated. They have got a bedroom annex inside the awning so the parents can sleep there and the children in the bongo.

It solves their storage problems and the awning can easily be detatched from the bongo and pegged down if they want to drive away for the day. Why dont you see if you can hire an awning??

Or, if not, why dont you just get a cheap tent for about £20 and put it up on your pitch at the side of the bongo and use that for storaging things?

we have a generous awning which attaches to side of bongo and has a 2-room sleeping compartment plus room for playing, chilling, dumping big stuff etc. Agree with seeker. We as family of 4 have all slept in bongo for several days, but only with the benefit of awning. and my dc are lot older.

with very young dc, I think you need to hire a 'proper' campervan or motorhome

W thought about an awning, but were put off by talk of leaks. We have a variety of tents for different purposes instead, but are still considering the awning - which one have you got?

thanks for the info, it sounded like too much of a squeeze so we decided against the bongo and bought a tent instead! ordered a vango icarus 500 last night, arriving tomorrow yippeeeeeeeeeee!

sorry seeker, i am not a 'new' bongo owner, just an oldie ,playing with another name. You did however give me lots of advice when we were thinking about buying ours. (I also have a barge)
Before this I had a tranny hi-top camper van which we adored so much she had a name
But she had a terrible accident involving a low car park roof.

Our Bongo (imaginatively called Billy Bongo. Or Billy Bongo San!With a theme song based on chitty chitty bang Bang...)is our everyday family car with that extra flexibility of being able to camp in it. but given the chance, I'd rather have me camper van back.

our awning is pretty much the same as this one
