MisSal, I saw a Kelly Kettle in action this week

and I think I want one now too.

Two very trendy and youthful looking people with an extremely attractive dog were boiling up water with it on the beach, all casual like.

I walked past and clocked it and thought 'I bet that is one of those Kelly Kettles', so I sauntered past reaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyyyyyyy slooooooooooooooooooooowly and pretended to admire their dog, when in reality I was admiring their swift boiling of water apparatus.

I sauntered past slowly a few more times before I asked them if it was one, and it was. They showed me the little tiny bits of wood they were burning and both told me how very very fast it boils the water.

I returned to dh full of enthusiasm and filled him in. He gave me the and said we could get a cup of boiling water from the cafe on the beach any time we wanted it.

I don't think I'll be getting one any time soon, but still, nice bit of kit

but seeker, is the squirting of lighter fluid not at odds with the whole 'I'm in touch with nature here with my dried moss and cup of tea by this here brook' vibe?

re cobbs, if you have the room then I would say yes, absolutely. I love being able to roast a joint outdoors, and the ginormous wok is perfect for doing big stews or curries in if you are catering for a big group.

i have yet to make bread in it, but Clari assures me it is possible.

Slubber - your point is??????

Slubberdegullion · 13/04/2010 11:18

I'm not sure I have a point
[pointless]

I fear I've been mis sold these Kelly Kettles . She told me a story about children gaily gathering twigs in the forest, there were adults supping hot tea in the gloaming, there may have been butterflies...

It all sounded EXTREMELY wholesome.

Lighter fluid is not wholesome.

I bought DH a Kelly Kettle but we haven't used it much after getting a bollocking for using it in the New Forest by a ranger, despite having it on a stand off the grass. Apparently we should have used the picnic tables we hadn't clocked were there.

It was the big lot of smoke that alerted him and all very embarrassing, felt like naughty teenagers.

Ah but see, Slubber, I've since decided it is the perfect piece of equipment for people like me with a split personality: Some days, you have the wholesome back to nature trip in the woods (there was a little spotty deer too...), whereas on others you you just decide you've had enough and blow it all up. Almost.

yes I can see how it might appeal to the glamper and arsonist within.

I've gone off them now, too many tales on here of them being hardly used. I'll stick to the beach cafe and/or my trusty thermos i think.

Let us know when you get yours though

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks whether the hints worked. Or I might have changed my mind by then. I'm fickle. You might have noticed...
