can anyone help me please? as im looking for somewhere to go for up to a week in May. (I am also checking out on ukcampsite.co.uk atm).

im looking for a campsite for our tent with our girls age 18m and 5 yrs old. It would be nice to have a playarea/ground, toilet and shower. A swimming pool on site would be a bonus!. Not far from the shops and a beach (or rocks) would be great so Dp can go fishing for our tea! and not too isloated.

thanks

Last year we went for a week to Carlyon Bay near the Eden Project, good beaches not too far, on-site pool, some entertainment, good facilities and pitches. Nearest beach wasn't good though. Would def recommend.

Then we went onto to Wooda in Bude. That was a lot more commercial, faberoony beaches but a lot more packed and busy campsite.

We went to seaview international near Mevagissey last September and it was lovely. It has a pool, a small shop, really nice showers/toilets, laundry, play area and is close to a couple of really nice beaches and about 20 mins drive to St Austell for shops. Also quite close to the Eden project. The local Tesco will even deliver to your pitch! We found it on UKcampsite and it had lots of good reviews.

Will watch this with interest. We're going at the end of August. Want to see quite a bit of Devon and Cornwall so we're happy to move around. The final destination is the Isles of Scilly so a campsite near Penzance would be good too.

I can give a big thumbs up to Gwithian Farm Campsite near Hayle.
Fantastically clean and well-equipped facilities bock, inc family bathroom, shop, short walk over dunes to great beach, utterly delicious fish and chips from van that calls to the site (Indian van also visits). No play area as such but families put in top field with large car-free central section to run round in. And they do have goats, guinea pigs and a ping pong table.

Realise I may have been a little late on the uptake here but I just had to add my two-cents and reccommend www.littletrevarrack.co.uk/holidays-in-cornwall which is in Carbis Bay. Beautiful scenery, near to St Ives, pool for the kids and great facilities. I give it a 10/10.

Jessieandme · 26/04/2010 16:26

Gwithian campsite is nice, haven't stayed there mind just visited another family who are big campers and they'd set it up very cosy. It was sunny though!

I went to the Featherdown campsite near Bude which was great for me as it wasn't really camping. There's a great campsite at Polperro too which is right next to the beach.

hocuspontas · 26/04/2010 16:49

Oooh Little Trevarrack looks lovely! Just waiting for DP to get in then I think I'm going to book! Only drawback is that I can't book 10 days. It only allows full weeks.

Are you still around danny? Do you know which field/pitches would have a sea view? There are only 4 fully-serviced ones left at the moment so probably wouldn't get one but you never know!

MilaMae · 26/04/2010 17:37

Easter how are you getting all your stuff to the Scillys?

travellingwilbury · 26/04/2010 17:40

Another vote here for Gwithian we have stayed there twice now and both times it was fab . You can walk to the beach (about 20 mins) The people that run it are really lovely and the toilet blocks were spotless and always managed to get a shower .

I'm very glad to see that Gwithian has been recommended a few times here as we've booked to go there at half term! Any tips of things to do/places to go nearby?

EasterBilby · 27/04/2010 22:42

Mila - we're not actually camping on Scilly this time. MIL has very generously hired cottages for a big family trip. We'll leave all our camping gear in the car at one of the car parks and just take over what we need for the week.

However blokey and his parents camped over there for years. Apparently you just ship camping gear over as freight. There's an extra charge and you have to contact the Scillonian well in advance of your holiday. Then you just load it all into a container on the day along with the rest of your luggage.
The campsite we would stay at change £20 return to get your things from the quay on the island to the campsite too. So there's extra expenses but it's by far the cheapest way of getting a holiday over there.

Now I really need to get rid of hte easter bit of my name....

I have just booked Little Travarrack! Multi-serviced pitch for 10 days at the end of August. Really looking forward to it!

melrose · 05/05/2010 22:15

We went to Wooda Farm in Bude last year and it was fantastic (my boys were the same age as yours are now)Lots of space for the boys to play, very friendly, spotless facilities and lovely hot showers. Bude is lovely, great beaches but also plenty to do if it rains! We had 2 days awful weather and utilised the ten pin bowling, great soft play centre and swimming pool!

MilaMae · 06/05/2010 12:36

Sooooo Easter!!!!

We've just booked Gwithians for then Hocus, also very excited.

hocuspontas · 06/05/2010 16:32

Lets wave to each other over the bay!!

MilaMae · 11/05/2010 13:10

No need to wave you'll hear us Hocus ,do you think it'll still be quite warm, haven't camped that late before?

EdgarAllenPoll · 11/05/2010 13:24

if you go to Bude, i recommend The Bay View for food...they do a cracking sticky toffee (swimming in toffee sauce..ummmm...)

caravanning and camping club sites generally provide excellent holidays t reasonable prices..(if you are a memeber some of their temporary sites offer fanastic value - membership i find well wort while even for 2 weeks a year.
