Children's sleeping bags

DS is now too big for grobags so needs a proper sleeping bag. Have been doing far too much research and I see that the temperature ratings for kids' sleeping bags are higher than for adults (ie a Coleman Hampton adult sleeping bag is comfortable at 6C but the junior version is comfortable at 10C).

I suppose my question is: do you think a 2 season adult bag equates to a 3 season child bag? I want to make sure DS will be warm enough as we do camp in quite cold weather. Although DH & I have a 2 season sleeping bag, we find it's warm enough for 3 seasons, and I am starting to get paranoid about my son shivering in a flimsy little junior bag.

Please could someone come and be the voice of reason for me! Thanks in advance.

I think the temperature ratings are just cause they are differnt bags.
I am a scout leader and my kids often come with me whatever the weather.
I would reccomend the Vango Nitestar convertible as you can have it shorter while youe kids ar small and then add the extra bit when they get bigger. I have also found that the zip each side allows me to get them tucked in properly even if it very cold, or to open the bag up partly if it is warmer.

Thanks, cmt.

The Nitestar does look really good but sadly I don't think DS would sleep in a mummy shape bag as he likes lots of space

I've never bought child bags..i've just bought good adult ones and tied the bottom of it with string so they can't wiggle down.
dd has been in one since she was 18 months.
Might be worth a thought?

My brother works in a camping shop, and he says that childrens bags tend to be a standard tog rating, and you won't find a really warm one (for some reason they seem to assume that kids only camp in hot summer!). he recommended we get normal adult bags for the kids, or else a kids bag with an extra liner inside, or blankets on top!

Just take thick pyjamas and socks and extra blankets you can wrap them in and they'll be fine.

DS always seems hotter than me when we are camping and doesn't seem to need as many layers as me anyway, and he's just got the standard mountain warehouse 2 season kid's sleeping bag.

We have 2 season bags (about 150cm long) for the children and they sleep in fleecy pyjamas and on top of Karrimats. They must sleep hot because they are always half out of sleeping bag while I am shivering under a blanket in my 3 season bag!

We've got this one

DS1 has had it since he was 3 and usually wears normal pj's under an all in one fleecy suit underneath it. He tends to keep his arms outside of the sleeping bag but is really toasty.
