Getting to Isle of Wight cheaply??

Hoping to camp on Isle of Wight in early June (the half term week) but the ferry prices seem a bit steep...

Anyone got any idea how to get there on the cheap? We're not up for swimming it, before anyone suggests it , just wondered whether anyone knows of any deals / promotions or does it make a difference with the days / times you travel? Top tips please!

There will be Dh, 3 Dcs and me, a car and a trailer..

if you go at the crack of dawn or other antisocial times its cheaper. one of the crossings is slightly less than the other but can't remember which. if you are camping try asking the site as sometimes they have vouchers/can do it as part of your package. i remember reading somewhere that per mile its one of the most expensive crossings in the world

Thanks - Hadn't thought about checking with the campsite. Will do that.

Need to look at travel times too - it doesn't matter to us what time we go so we can go for the cheapest!

Yes, some of the campsites give discounts on ferry crossings, we stayed at Park resorts last year and managed to get cheep crossings.

I'm doing my crossing to the IOW ,that week with tesco clubcard rewards. We;re taking a camper van and it was £35 in vouchers for the £140.50 crossing. So worked out we paid 50p+ the cost to post vouchers of £4.95 special delivery. HTH

Oooh thanks for that

I've got some tesco vouchers - didn't realise you could use them!

Now where did I put them...

No problem ,we just have to hope the weathers good. Have you booked your campsite yet. We're at the Orchards, by all accounts its really nice. I just hope the reports are right

Flossie - No have not decided on the campsite yet - still googling and obsessively reading reviews! Hoping to book soon though..

Hoping for good weather too. We always go away that week and then again for a couple of weeks in August, and recently the May/June week has had the better weather (we had a spectacularly soggy week in North Yorks last August) Fingers crossed for this year..

We're looking at a place near Cowes. Copping out though this year and going for a places with lodges rather than taking our own tent.

Only thing I've seen is to avoid a Saturday cos that's more expensive.

The orchards is at Newbridge- so not far oncee we arrive on the island.
We choose there because it has a pool and is near transport links, so we don't have to move our camper everyday.
Its quite expensive I suppose £20 per night inc hook up + 2 adults , children 5-15 yrs £3 extra per night.

i've been to adgestone and nodes point. to be honest i wouldn't go back to either. adgestone we were on an ants nest next to a cockeral so had little sleep all week - there were other niggles as well if anyone interested and nodes point was a bit too hidihi, noisy at night with teenagers and the water stopped whilst i was in mid lather in the shower - which i think happens regularly
