Eurocamp - take duvet or sleeping bags?

Hi guys!

We are Eurocamping in August - 3 nights in the Vendee, then 8 nights in St Jean de Plage and up again to the Vendee (can't remember the areas at the moment) for another 3 nights.

I am thinking of taking sleeping bags rather than duvets - we have 3 children so duvets will be bulky.

Do you think this will be ok - what do most people do?

i thought they supply bedding? are you flying or driving? duvets are nicer and you can just use them to pad out the car for extra comfort

ArcticRoll · 03/02/2010 11:50

Much prefer duvets

bibbitybobbityhat · 03/02/2010 11:51

Wow! You like to plan ahead .

Yes watch me being organised! We are driving, do you think its feasible to fit 1 king duvet, 2 single duvets and a baby sleeping bag in a car with everything else we have to take (incl, pushchair etc?)x

Depends on size of car, also have you got a topbox?

SaveFerris · 03/02/2010 12:12

The car is big - an Audi Q7 (like a 4x4) but with 3 children of varying ages I imagine we'll be taking generally a lot of 'stuff', plus I am packing for all weather eventualities. We are hoping to borrow a top box - do these hold much? Was going to put towels and wetsuits in there.

if you have a roofbox definitely take duvets. it will too warm for sleeping bags adn the kids won't sleep

DecorHate · 03/02/2010 12:50

Are you staying in a tent or mobile home? If it's a mobile home you will definitely have blankets at least provided. But check with Eurocamp. I actually find the nights quite cool in the Vendee. We usually take sleeping bags for the dcs and make do with the blankets for ourselves. I take sheets and pillowcases for us all.

agree with decor vendee at night is freezing - very strange. rep said he had 3 blankets on his sleeping bag in tent. a couple of mornings we put the gas fire on - in august!!! didn't see one mosquito and i think it was because it was so cold at night. i have duvet and make kids use bags or sheets if they make their beds - but i am cruel

Lucycat · 03/02/2010 16:47

And there is the very reason ( well amongst many others) why we don't camp in the Vendee!! Cold in August!

I expect about 18c at night on my French hols!
I'd take duvets in stuff sacks- will you get under sheets or do you have to take those as well?

SaveFerris · 03/02/2010 20:38

The 3 nights in Chambord on 1st leg of the journey is in a mobile home. The next 8 nights in St Jean de Monts is in a tent, then the return leg (somewhere near Chambord), for another 3 nights, is in a mobile home.

So I am thinking duvets, and a grobag for 16 month old then?

And sheets, and pillowcases.

Thats a lot of bulk! Am going to check Eurocamp website. Duvets would be much nicer than sleeping bags tho.

Is it Chateau de Marais you're going to near Chambord or Grenouillere?

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 04/02/2010 21:02

Gonna go against the grain here - we always do sleeping bags cos of cold backs etc (airbeds though, not campbeds). BUT spend £10 per person and get a silk sleeping bag liner - gorgeously warm inside sleeping bags and fine on own if it is hot.
