I am looking for somewhere to stay with my 2 children. not particularly interested in a ll singing/ dancing type sites. only thing the children ask for is a pool!
we would like to stay somewhere around the loire valley/ normandy type areas (broad i know!)

For the Loire Valley I would recommend Chateau des Marais. Not too big, quiet at night and good pool area.

Lucycat · 28/01/2010 14:52

Interesting DecorHate - we wouldn't have recommended Marais! Horses for courses I guess -
The pool area was good (when the slides were working and for a week of our holiday one wasn't and the pool temp in the 'bridge' pool was too cold to swim in) but lots of teenagers and our pitch was very small for our tent. We don't like sites with tour operators on though - so you can tell what we do like! The location is great for Chambord though.

Depends on how old the children are? We much prefered the Saumur area of the Loire, more interesting landscape, chateaus and the zoo at Doue was fabulous. We stayed at Chantepie which had a fairly basic pool complex but it was fine for our two (they were 8 and 5 at the time)

lots of people here recommend Etang de la Breche.

thank you both. will look at both of those.

ds is 11, dd will be 4 by the summer. usually stay at v. small basic sites.

Chantepie - I would stay there agian - have stayed 3-4 times for 3-5 days at a time.

Lucycat · 31/01/2010 16:55

oh and personally i would head further south than the Loire - 2 more hours and the weather is soo much better, the landscape more attractive and the wine redder!

milkybarsrus · 31/01/2010 18:45

Hi Lucycat, when you say another 2 more hours and the weather and wine is better (sounds good to me), could you be more specific please? I have 2 teens and a 4year old to cater for in their long lists of wants would be a decent pool and hot weather! The south of france sounds good but hate the idea of a very long 2 day journey in the car. Any advice would be good on areas etc. Sorry for the hijack .

Ivykaty44 · 31/01/2010 20:32

this camp is in a nice area probably 3 hours?

Lucycat · 01/02/2010 18:24

What about the Dordogne? it might be actually a bit more than 2 hours but for teenagers this site comes v highly recommended - stunning location on the river too.

Not cheap though!

Gorges du verdon gorgeous too - and maybe a more straightforward journey from calais?

Ivykaty44 · 01/02/2010 20:18

lucycat have you been to rocamadour? just seen the last camp you put up which is nearish to there, so was wondering. It is worth a visit

( we did camping down a lane here where they go pot holing - beautiful but a mistake!)

Lucycat · 01/02/2010 22:51

yes it's beautiful we love all the cliff top chateaus round there - Beynac, Domme rtc - the river is stunning, gorgeous to swim in too.

We stay just down river where there are fewer Brits and more Dutch!
