Can you tell me about your favourite campsites anywhere in England or Wales (would love to try Scotland but is too far with the kids just now).

We want to have a couple of weeks with my parents in August. They have a caravan and we have a large tent. We sat down over lunch today to talk about it and decided that we don't really care where it is, just that it is a decent campsite. We went to East Fleet Farm near Weymouth for the last 3 years but decided we need a chage of scenary

We made a list things we are looking for in a campsite (mainly Dad's) so if by some miracle you know a campsite that fills these requirements.

What we are after:
Nice weather likely
Big pitches for a big tent
Not too bunched together and crowded
Children's play area
No club house
Electric hook ups for tents and for caravans and tents to be able to pitch next to each other
Within driveable distance of the beach
Not too noisy
We want to be able to arrive on a Friday, so not places that insist on Saturday to Saturday bookings.

Failing that, please can you just tell me about your favourite sites and why you love them. Ta muchly x

We go here. It's very close to Crantock (Newquay area) in Cornwall.

There's no childrens' play area but if you look at the photos you'll see there's a big area in the middle that all the children together in. There's often a game of 40/40 going on or cricket or something. Meanwhile the adults gather and chat and drink wine.

We have a huge tent and the pitches are big enough, and Kath will sort out you being next to each other. And she does bookings on any day too.

It's not noisy at all, there's a curfew of 10.30 or 11.00 pm and they'll come round and make sure you are quiet! But not in a Gestapo sort of way.

The nearest beaches are Crantock and Polly Joke, but Holywell Bay is close too, as are all the Newquay beaches and Perranporth and St Agnes in the other direction.

The shower block is always clean and they keep the site spotless.

There's a shop on the caravan site next door that sells newspapers and bread.

Oh I know Holywell bay very well. Lovely area. Thanks for the recommendation

It's a lovely area isn't it? We're going back for the 5th time this year. Our neighbours on the pitch next to us have become friends as they always go every year too.

Try this one - you don't even have to put the tent up:

Ooh I've been there (the yurts). They're fantastic! Really nice owners, comfy yurts with rugs and lovely beds, little loo shed (like the Grandpa's on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), friendly owners, saw deer in woods, kids can play safely, camp fire, masses of space. Just lovely. Want to go back this year.

Been here link but only stayed in the hostel. There were definitely caravans and tents.

Little shop on site sells basics - only a 10 minute walk down to a lovely beach.

About a 10 minute drive into Falmouth - lots to do there.

Cadbury · 28/01/2010 09:32

Oh wow! Those yurts look wonderful. Have a feeling that my dad Mr Caravan wouldn't go for them though

Tregedna looks lovely as well. Decent tarrif too.

We went to Seaview International near Mevagissey in Cornwall last Sept - it was excellent. Tents and Caravans can pitch together, no clubhouse but has a pool and very nice toilets/showers and a little shop. It is in a rural location but close to nice beaches and not too far from St Austell for supermarkets etc (Tesco deliver to your tent!). We had a fab time as there was loads to do locally and the Eden project was only 20 mins away.

Cadbury · 28/01/2010 11:04

Thanks for that Wiggletastic, will check it out. I spent a lot of summers at Mevagissey when I was a nipper. Lots of memories.

Me too! I hadn't been to Cornwall for about 20 years but it is still as lovely as I remember. Hope you find somewhere you like. Its great having something to look forward to...

I recall the year we went back to Pentewan near Mevagissey and found they had stuck a huge oil platform in the bay - it was all you could see from every point on the beach. I felt so sad seeing that. Sill, progress and all that!

Nice weather?

That would be North Norfolk then! We got fed up after 3 summes of continual rain in the West Country and went to Clippesby Hall last year. We basked in the sun and my poor sister got a soaking over in Cornwall.

serinBrightside · 28/01/2010 21:20

Summes ?

Cadbury · 28/01/2010 21:59

Serin, it looks great. Will send the web page to my dad. I've never been to Norfolk but I've heard great things.

Our fave site is The Quiet Site in the Lake District. For a camping family it ticks all the boxes, family bathrooms, very child friendly bar (except its not like any bar we have been in before!). The setting is breathtaking and all the campers seen just so nice. The Quiet Site They have a few camping pods which look very civilised.

Another great one is Highburn House in Northumberland. The coastal area here is super and many of my best camping memories are from here. Highburn

being the isle of wight beaches etc easy to get to. i was sceptical before we went, but it has to be one of our best family holidays.
