It really depends on what type of camping you'll be doing...

Wolfgirl · 27/01/2010 17:28

huh?? Im guessing you mean short or long term (few days Vs Week) ?? If so, at the moment it is 4-5 days at a time.

Well yes - how long, where (on a campsite or camping rough/wild), in what season(s), in what part of the country, will you be spending all day at the site or is it purely a place to sleep, will you be hiking with the tent at all or will it always be transported by car etc...

I like it, in fact I want it as our trusty ol' Gelert Cadiz is getting a bit small for our growing boys.

Wolfgirl · 30/01/2010 13:39

serinBrightside - look it up on eBay, cheapest I've found it so far and free delivery

sasamaxx - gone are my days of roughing it, oooooh no, home from home is order of the day now . I think it would be fine, but we had a tunnel tent before, and this is a dome. I did hear they could be a bit tricky to put up, but if that were the case, then they wouldnt sell so well, perhaps...maybe??

Don't know much about Gelert brand. My hubbie is 6ft 5in and we have an Outwell tent (dome). Height in main living area is fine for him - assume tunnel type will have higher bedroom's than ours but this is not an issue in a space we lie down in!

My priorities are:
-to have the inner tent 'sewn in' so that no draft can get in (or beasties)
-for main space to be large enough for the family.
-to have a decent sized porch for dirty boots, bin etc.
-highly waterproof and gale proof (espec this country during the last 3 summers!)Think the waterproof level is rated by its "hydrostatic head" Cheaper tents start at 2000mm?? We went for 4 or 5000mm?? You can read about this on most tent sites I should think.

Having said all this. If you are just planning to go for the odd weekend when the weather looks to be guaranteed, you can be less fussy and spend less. Most brands tend to do good heights and large living spaces and you can check them out at local suppliers.

Happy hunting and happy holidays.
