Sleeping with a young baby in a Bongo Campervan

Hi
Just wanted to post this as some advice for anyone thinking of camping with a baby or young child in a Bongo campervan. After lots of trial and error and research on to how to manage the sleeping arrangements, we have hit upon a good solution that works for us:

We have a roof elevating Bongo and have found that a standard Tomy bed guard, will fit exactly widthways across the hatch, making a little cot space at the front of the roof (which is the highest end). This means you can either leave your hatch open to listen out for him/her or close it if your child is likely to climb over. We did also try fitting the small travel cot up there, but all in all found it a hassle.

The bedguard also folds up and fits under the mattress and with careful position you can get your roof down on top of it when you drive away.

Of course our LO is only 18 months old now and so we will need to think again once he is too big to sleep widthways. . .to that end, anyone else who has any good solutions on the sleeping space for young children and bongo's, I would love to hear from you!

I meant to say, we roll back our main matress 'upstairs' so that we can fit the bed guard. Instead, we use a standard Graco travel cot matress which fits perfectly.

Hiya - When our baby was little we hit on the novel solution of letting her sleep in the boot of our (unconverted) bongo. It kept her warm and safe during our scottish summers. However now a strapping 18 month old we need to find a new bed for her. Would love to try the bed guard option but already have my two sons sleeping up there and they are too big to share. Has anyone tried to use the front cab? Would love others ideas. Have seen a sort of bunk for Bay Window VW's but not sure how it would work for the Bongo.
