Just interested to hear from anyone else whos DCs still have a routine when camping. DS1 is nearly 6 and DS2 is 17 months. Although they were in bed later than at home we still bathed DS2 and he was in bed by 7.30/8 every night, and DS1 showered and in bed by 8.30/45.

Didn't have any trouble with them going to sleep and they were waking up about 7ish or later each morning.

Seems that no one else has a routine when camping. I can't be the only one can I?

Trouty, yes that's about the same uas us. I'm not alone then. Pondered whether ASD has anything to do with it, but then DS2 isn't (as far as we know)

LOL Seeker. Yep DS1 had a new glow stick to go to bed with every night. The ritual of choosing which colour will no doubt be repeated for many years to come!

AngryWasp, I was implying neither. I was merely enquiring if I am the only one who has a routine when camping. I have not decided my self whether it is a good or a bad thing, so can hardly judge anyone else.

This is what we use for bath time... 5 year old just about squeezes into medium still, but will take large next year!

child's camping bath

You can even warm your red wine in it afterwards (cork still in obviously).

Ahh yes. We have a trugg too. Just couldn't fit it in but will make room next time then.

Unless I can convince DS2 to

a: Stand up (lazy toad)
b: Get in the shower.

In which case I won't have to bother next year....... [sile]

We don't really have one. Kids play till they start getting tired/ kids leave playground then get changed for bed.

Just for information the last campsite we used was Wolds Way in North Yorkshire and they had 2 baths.

Oh those who have glowsticks, where did you get them from, I wanted to get them for my 2 but couldn't find them other than online
Thanks

JHKE - try Pound Shops - that's where we get ours!

I suppose it's horses for courses really.

Mine seem to do well on routine, and it's no hassle for any of us as it's what we're used to. As DS1 has ASD it does help with his behaviour. As he gets older I shall no doubt be letting him run wild and join in the 'Lord of the Flies' re-enactment that seems to occurr naturally at campsites. Problem is, he likes his bed so he comes and tells me he's tired (far too tired to walk and needs a carry - apparantly!)!!

Must admit I like to bath the little one mainly due to the sand in his nappy. As he bum shuffles on the beach he seems to bring half of it back with him. Like the idea of using the Trugg as a bar, I've seen a lot of people using them for washing up, although originally I think they might have been intended for use in the garden.

We got mini-pins last time and they stayed nice and cool (whilst they lasted).

Seeker - Thanks will try them next year

Loopymumsy - Mine went to bed about 9.30 too most nights and still got up at 7am next morning. We had a few grumpy days too... They are 5 and 3.

These are the sort that we had glow bracelets in a pack of 15. Wilkinsons used to sell them but we found them in the Post Office in Southwold where we were camping. They were 1.99 for 15 though so this site is cheaper if you want 100. I will order from them when I run out as we'll definitely use them.

You need a glow in the dark frisbee as well. You haven't lived until you have played frisbee with a luminous frisbee with each player having a glow stick round their wrist.

seeker · 04/09/2009 15:09

In the dark, obviously. It would be silly to do it in daylight.
