Are expensive tents worth it?

Ours was £100 despite being massive. We've had it 5 years now, and the porch poles are looking rusty and it leaks a bit and several of the poles are mended with gaffer tape after snapping in high winds. So clearly it is not exactly top-of-the range.
It some point it will probably die on us and we will go for another, which will be smaller.
We are pondering our next one in a very hypothetical way. So what are the advantages of the ones that cost £500 as opposed to £150? Are they worth the money?
Thanks

I saw that Peachy...common MY ARSE

This here is my heart's desire the merest snip at £2500, and a trip to Holland to pick it up. Bloody marvellous tents though.

are you moving muffle? or is it a pipedream

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 15:35

lovingn the tent slubber, practical yet romantic. my friend has one like that. it was his parents adn he used to camp in it as a child. last for bloody ever

Slubberdegullion · 15/07/2009 15:42

They do last for bloody ever. Angelicminx on ukcs is camping in one from the 60s iirc and it is still going strong. I like the blend of exclennet design and bell tent curvery going on too.

I'll never get one though . I think £2500 is probably a tad too much.

yes when i started to look at tents that cost that much i just bought a campervan instead

Slubberdegullion · 15/07/2009 15:46

I want that tent AND a little campervan. The perfect combo imho.

greedy

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 15:47

which one would you be having angry sex in?

Slubberdegullion · 15/07/2009 15:51

ROFL

when did it become angry sex? lolol

Both. Inside and out. I reckon the central poles of the De Waards are built for kinky Dutch in-tent-pole-love action.

We're looking chevre - not to move cities, just for something more spacious, bit nearer a commercial area and also for school reasons.

It's hard to find the right thing though, v. little on the market and all the ones we like get snapped up fast so it might not happen for ages.

I see the thread has moved on...

Slubberdegullion · 15/07/2009 15:53

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 15:54

my friend always talks about angry sex - makes me giggle

muffle · 15/07/2009 15:54

Can't remember where you live - it is out by the sea?

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 15:56

oui

muffle · 15/07/2009 15:58

Tis lovely there but DP and I are hankering to be back closer in towards the centre, even though we're not that far out now.

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 15:59

we have a lovely high street! come down some time, honestly i told pruners to move here and she did not listen.

muffle · 15/07/2009 16:03

I know, have friends there and I love some of the houses and the seaside. But... what about the late nights out at jazz clubs? Hmmm?

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 16:04

that is why we have taxis! actually there is some jazz action down here.

muffle · 15/07/2009 16:04

Also I like supermarkets and want to be near one - especially if it's waitrose - I'm afraid I wouldn't fit in.

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 16:05

v. disappointed in you. [mutters waitrose]

muffle · 15/07/2009 16:06

See I was right! I would be pitchforked out of your neck of the woods the minute I stood in the middle of the high street wailing "where's waitrose?"

VousFaireVousPeutAvecUneChevre · 15/07/2009 16:07

you would be burnt at the aromatherapic stake
