Blimey I'm nervous about it... So far have got:

camping mats x 4
sleeping bags x 4
oh yes,the tent - we've put it up once as a practice a few weeks ago...
1 ring burner
2 gas canisters
4 x plates, bowls, cups/glasses
1 x chopping board + cutlery
3 x cheapo towels for drying out tent
1 x dustpan and brush
2 x collapsible crate boxes (1 for shoes and 1 for washing up)
clothes including 4 pairs of crocs and 4 pairs of trainers
matches
1 x lantern
1 x torch
2 x headtorches
1 x pull string radio (my favourite camping purchase!)
1 x tent rug (homemade from fleece + carpet foam underlay backing )
1 x fleece blanket for me and dp
gazillion x sweets
1 x chicken casserole, already cooked
1 x pesto and pasta meal
cereal, bread, sugar, coffee, teabags etc.
2 x towels and 1 x tea towel
1 x toilet roll
1 x pack of playing cards
2 x new books for ds's

Phew!

Shame we don't have 1 x large car or 1 x roofbox - got to fit it all in a Peugeot 306!

Honestly, I was a rubbish squatter until the other night - have never been able to do it, but the thought of trudging through the field and then the caravan bit to get to the loos at 3.30am did the trick!

oh boy you pack a lot.

You need a big camping knife. Did you say matches?

Do you know if you can light a bonfire? If you can, you wont need much in terms of cooking equipment, but you must pack tinfoil.

The perfect camping dessert:

Cut apples, pears, bananas and milkchocolate and put on squares of tin foil. Wrap. Toss onto bonfire.

"chargrilled veg" Cut veg and put on square with tinfoil. Wrap. Toss onto bonfire.

"fishburgers" Put on square of tinfoil. Wrap. Toss onto bonfire.

etc. The only cooking equipment you will ever need:

Tinfoil
Matches
Big Knife (also for turning small fresh twigs into bbQ squewers for cooking hotdogs)

I am a light camper.

Sadly not many places where you could light a fire here.

In my dreams.

DH however is still on about a dustbuster. Which is the other extreme.

Shame...

We went to a campsite in Hampshire, and we cold light a fire. It was not a campsite campsite, but a farmer who let people camp in his field. There was a toilet and running water, but nothing else.

When DS is older and doesn't want to come camping with us, I'd like to go to places like that.

Tinfoil is THE camping essential.
