so pray tell, how do you cope?

DS and I go on camping holidays as they are a tad cheaper than abroad etc.... but we're a small family

so how am I going to put the tent up on my own? (well, with a very weak 6yr olds help)

I want the Outwell Carolina to replace my tunnel monstrosity but the shop bloke rekons it's miles to heavy to put up on my own....

could I do it? is it possible to put a tent up on one's own? or shall I abandon the idea until years down the line when I have a partner to help (which seems ridiculous)

arrgh.....!

Lewisfan I don't think it's particually big tbh, I think you should go for it.

FlappyTheBat · 16/06/2009 11:58

Thanks for that, I am really tempted to try and go camping by myself, although dd's are only 2 and 4!!

Putting the tent up by myself would probably be the easiest part of the trip

Peachy · 16/06/2009 12:00

Lewis add 2 to the number of people in the tent for optimum berth size

tahts what the manufacturees do after all LOL

I often put up my Montana 6 on my own too. It takes me about 30 - 40 minutes to get it set up and pegged out properly, but that includes a canopy.

I can second that you would be able to put up the quechua 4.2 seconds base alone, as i can do it whilst dp fannies about gets on with other things And it is up in about 4 minutes flat!

WheretheWildthingswere, THANK YOU for the youtube links. Beats the Outwell method and the poor bloke with the Bear Lake is in pouring rain!

saintlydamemrsturnip · 16/06/2009 21:35

I bought bell tent. It's meant to take 13 minutes alone, 9 minutes for two. I am very likely to be having to put it up alone so that was a huge consideration. I think it came down to the bell tent or the decathlon quechua range.

bumsrush · 16/06/2009 22:54

I want to go camping with my kids and I am looking at the quechua range. Maybe the base tent. I have a tunnel type tent that I can manage but I want pop up. Tunnel tent is OK to put up, peg one end and puuuuuuullllll. Then rattle pegs in everywhere.

DS is olde enough to help now and DD can hold pegs, but I want up pop up

Thanks Where the wild things for that video link, think I've saved about an hour from our set up of a Bear Lake...and possibly my marriage Video is great esp as has lady wandering through looking at camera then coming back with someone else and looking again!

re OP ...I could put up a Vango Oregon 400 myself even though not much experience...then tried the Outwell Nevada which was harder as higher...so Tunnel tents are easier as long as not too high (am 5,5) but wouldn't go for anything too heavy as pia when windy to do on your own...
