Anyone with an Outwell Vermont...what are the 3 upright poles for?

I can see holes in the side doors and also in the front that suggest the poles should go in them to make a kind of porch, but I cannot get them to stay in place. Am I on totally the wrong track? I think I might just leave them at home next time.

Also...just out of interest...if you have a Vermont how on earth do you fit all your gear into the car? DH and I are having a constant battle about getting a roof box...I was just intrigued to know what vehicles other vermont owners drive and how they manage to transport it all?

We have a vermont, but we only remember 2 poles. You also need to peg the porch out, if that makes sense.. have to say even pegged out it wasn't very stable.

We have a Vauxhall Astra Estate and a roofbox, have to say its a very tight fit with 2 kids in the car as well..

We definitely have 3 poles.

I am not sure how to peg the porch out...would I have to use some extra lines for that?

Trying to pack the car puts a real dampener on the trip but DH insists we don't need a roof box as we have an estate car.

Can't check about 3rd pole till we go on holiday in August. You could check on UKCampsite website?

Guy ropes should be on the door already.

The best car we had for camping was a berlingo.. bigger boot.. we would love to go back to it.

I have been checking the UKCampsite website and cannot find anything. I'll have to post a new thread on there too.

I will have to have another look at the guy ropes. I don't quite understand how it would work properly with the ropes as they are.

I have been eyeing up the vans that are about thinking how lovely it would be to just throw the things into the boot and not worry about it. There would even be space for a 3rd child then too .

Could the third of your 3 extra poles be the wardrobe rail? We have one of those in our Vermont - it's in two parts with a hook at each end to suspend it.

We've just got a vermont l and haven't tried using these extr poles for anything yet - but in answer to your other question we have just got a trailer to take all of our clobber!

If you put the poles with the spikey ends into the holes in the corner of the canoy, and stand up, there should be some guy ropes that you need to loop over the top. these need to be stretched out to keep the poles upright....
Should be simple!

it's great and means I can do the packing ow rather than relying on dh's anal packing techniques that we relied upon when space was at a premium!

I'm now looking forward to our next camping trip to try the canopy!

Just an idea for packing everything in car, we have just brought a cargo guard. The idea is that we can pack higher without fear of it falling on kids. Is this an option?

I read this with interest as we have the Vermont XL and when we used it for the first time over Easter we realised that to get the front porch/canopy bit up, we need more guy ropes (certainly couldnt see them anywhere on the tent, unless we missed them!). Love the tent though, it's lovely and roomy (2 adults, 2 children and lots of camping furniture fit in very nicely!).

By the way, we started off with a ford mondeo. Then moved onto a Honda CRV - with a roof box! And we are STILL crammed in. In fact, we are considering taking 2 cars when we go to Dorset for a week in the Summer as we want to take the kid's bikes. Not very environmentally friendly but cheaper than buying a trailer or a bike rack/tow bar!

Did you not have a little kit with the tent? I think it has some patches and spare guy ropes in.

When you click on the outdoor action website there is a picture of the Vermont with the sun canopy up. It doesn't stay there long before scrolling to the next picture, but its the only one I have seen with the poles being used.

I will let DH know...I am now thinking I need one of these for all my gear!

hi we have a vermont medium,cooker stand , double cooker with grill, gas bottle , 2 double airbeds,1 double sleeping bag , 2 single sleeping bags,coleman gas light, coleman rechargeable light,gas bottle,folding table and chairs,4 folding chairs, electric hook up,windbreak, and all the other stuff you need to keep Mrs and 2 young kids happy for a week. We get it all in Renault scenic and roof box yes a bit of tight fit but still room.
As for the poles if you look at bottom of porch there should be 2 holes to fit spiked ends of poles in attach 2 guy ropes to these spikes and once up pull them at diffrent angles to tension them, but be aware that in stong winds large extention will not hold up, so its just for sunny days.
