Motorhomes-Please Share

So I know it isn't "real" camping but I have hired a motorhome for next weekend/
Just me and DD in a 4 berth and I am ridculously excited about it/Little worried about driving something so big though.

So,any top tips?

Do they have a water tank? (will be in a field with no facilities)

What about power for Tv/shower etc?

-Can you tell I'm a virgin?

Should have a water tank - as for the others it depends on the model/make.

When you are driving avoid low bridges. We caused a massive jam in Cannes when we nearly took the top off our van. Top tip number 2: get your mirrors just right. I have lost whole lorries in the blind spot.

Don't forget the corkscrew

Corkscrew will be the first thing I pack!

Low bridges-another thing I hadn't considered-doh.

Am already panicking about filling up with petrol and getting it down windy country lanes.

From the brochure it looke huuuuge-which is great for "living in" not the driving bit.

On board water tank yes, plus on board waste tank. Find out how much they hold though & how to fill up/empty.
There will be an on board 12volt battery for power for lights & water pump/shower. The fridge will need to be lit as will run on gas when on site & will need switching over to vehicle battery whilst driving.
All this information should be given to you & shown how to do it when you collect the van.
We transfered to a motorhome last year after caravanning for 18 + years & love it.

Woosh can I ask how much it cost to hire the motor home?

We are only having it for one night and was a bargainous £80-think it's about £550 for a week.

make sure teh hire company explain teh whole 3 way set up. i.e.

1. electric hook up - no relevent to you as this is when you are hooked up at a campsite.
2. leisure 12v battery - thisis what you will be using. it should be charged up for you butyou ahve to do certain switch flicking routines to get it to work. this shoudl run the lights, water pump etc.

1. gas - the fridge and hot water can run off gas.

yes it will have a water tankn

tv - are you serious?

Eeek!! don't think I'll suggest it to DH as an alternitive to camping.

we looked into hiring campers and decided it was more cost effective to just buy one!

i have camped for a zillion years, i think you need to put in the hours lying on teh ground with a wind and the rain before you are entitled to upgrade!

i spent the past 2 years staring longingly at campers and considering crazy stuff like get a ehu for the tent and having a wee fridge. it was time to move on!

LOL!! I spent my 20's in the TA and spent a lot of time, in all sorts of weathers in just a bivi, does that count

Yup! it was nearly 20 years ago though and I couldn't do that these days

Spent two nights camping with DD last year and vowed never again.I think I might just like this campervan though.....
