Lightsticks? What's that all about then?

Saw a camping thread about MN giving them lots of top tips about camping. Mainly about using lightsticks.

What do you use lightsticks for when camping? Am off camping in the morning for the first time and actually have some lightsticks in the cupboard. What are they for?

do you mean glow sticks?

They're for the kids to play with, once the sun goes down.

IotasCat · 21/05/2009 14:58

Lightsticks are for shedding light

My kids play with them, we use them to light up the tent at night

IotasCat · 21/05/2009 15:01

Of course you can use lanterns or torches instead

Yes, sorry glowsticks - the ones you snap and they glow.

I see I thought it was for more than playing with - like they had some amazing secret-cantdo-without use.

Will take them for the kids to play with then

Good for giving the kids to keep in their bit of the tent when they go to bed so you don't run down the battery of your torch.

i use them for lots of things - get tubes of 25 from poundland

  1. comfort/night light for kids
  2. playthings to run around campsite like loons after dark -kids that is not me
  3. attach to zips so you can find way out to loos in the night
  4. attach to plastic bag handle of "bucket with lid" for nights when you are not trapsing acroos field to loos very importent to ensure darn thing is not knock over (although use of cat litter now stops gross clean up requirments
  5. put around guy ropes at usual trip over points so you dont break leg on retunr from trip to loo in the middle of the night
  6. use bracelet type ones to identify own can of beer/cola etc around night time campfire

I am sure there might be more but thats what i have come up with for now - always worth having a couple around just in case

.....and if your kid eats the contents (as ours did) don't bother rushing 40miles to A&E (as we did), they aren't toxic.

Made his poo a very strange colour though

Raving

Washersaurus · 24/05/2009 20:31

I have some but haven't dared offer them to my boys as the pack said they contained broken glass...am I being too precious? I like the idea, but the chances are that they will try and eat them....

dobby2001 · 26/05/2009 22:27

serin I have to ask - was the poo glowing tho ?!
