Hi all,

We are planning to go to a campsite (but are chickening out and staying in a caravan) in Brittany this June/July. We are couple with a just 2 yo (will be soon).

Can anyone recommend any specifically for young childen. Good park or soft play. Next to sandy beach. Good shallow pool for littlun. Maybe even babysitting/creche? And, near a town/village so Mum and Dad can eat out/shop for brie. Am I asking for too much?

Also, does anyone know if there is any difference between north and south coast of Brittany?

Thanks for any info.

We're going to Eurocamp Raguenes-Plage in July with DD 5.1yrs and DS 2.4yrs (taking own tent - but DS hasn't been camping yet )

Have never been before, but it seems to fit the bill.

Raguenes plage is fab - we have been there loads of times with the DC and friends - children were 2+ I think. There is a toddler
pool which they used to love.

We have always booked the pitch for 2 tents right at the back of the campsite - all hedged off and right next to a little grassy playground. Perfect, that's why we keep going!

The nearest village is Nevez - has a great market once (?) a week and a big supermarket, and a couple of decent restaurants and Pont Aven is the nearest town - it is lovely and has loads of places to eat.

I feel a bit sad now as we aren't going there this year - hope you have a fab time AW - can give you more tips if you like!

Ooo, thanks

We're going with 5 other families (none have been before) and apparently we can all pitch together. There'll be kids ranging from about 11/12 down to 2 (DS) Hoping that the older ones will take care of/tire out my younger ones so we can chill and drink more wine...

Any idea what the weather will be like end July/beginning August??

Can you hire buggies? We won't have room for DS's mountain buggy, and he doesn't use it much now anyway, but thought one might be useful for a few longer walks/evenings out.

Yes, there are "bays" for 6 or 8 tents with hedges round.

Our kids ranged from 6-9 last year, and we basically let them go off on their own - it's not a huge site and there's a big playground as well as the small one I mentioned. We always accompanied them to the pool, of course (even though my two are much stronger swimmers than me or DH!) Theres a takeaway on site - does pizza and sausages and chips, plus a reasonable shop and a bar, and theres a small musical type entertainment for families up there most nights (but not too loud!)

You can walk across the cliff (great for kite flying) and down to the beach from the site. But you should try out the beach at Trevignon - fantastic - sandy, rocks to climb on, massive rock to jump off, no shops / ice cream cafes, etc. Watch out for the fest-noz there - a local community event with traditional singing and dancing and moules-frites, fresh fich, etc. Also a great walk around the cliffs and lovely beach at Kerdruc (I think)

We have been late July/early Aug every year and it has always been great - sometimes odd day or night of rain / dullness, but nothing to ruin your hol. And the hedges do seem to cut down on the wind factor.

I've no idea if you can hire buggies - we made ours walk! (scooters OK too) And we always take our bikes, but I think you can hire them somewhere nearby.

Feel all nostalgic now......

Thanks again, sounds fab. Would love to take our bikes but have no idea how we'd get them on the car with all the rest of the crap paraphernalia we're taking

bigTillyMint · 18/05/2009 20:53

Oh we have a 3 bike rear carrier and one on the roof next to the roof box - Ford Modeo estate - we look like the Clampits!

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 18/05/2009 20:56

We've won a holiday to Brittany with Siblu (courtesy of Mumsnet) and we're going with the littl'un.

The campsite that swung it for us was the one in Domaine de kerlann because it has a huge toddler pool and slides with water only ankle deep. They appear to be really child friendly too so check out there website.

amazonianwoman · 18/05/2009 22:44

Oh yes, forgot we had a rear bike carrier (as well as the roof one )

No wonder we can't get into the garage. Do you think it would be worth taking bikes when DCs are only 5.1 & 2.4? DD 5 next month can't ride without stabilisers yet and can't believe we'd fit in the rear bike seat for DS? Probably not?

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2009 10:15

Well ours were riding around (without stabilisers, so they do go faster and more easily) when DD was 5 and DS was 3 1/2, but I would take folding scooters which don't take up much space but are fun!

There is also a nice walk along the cliffs from the site, to a traditional village (for beer and ice creams!), and Pont Aven is lovely (especially the biscuit shops where you can do lots of tasting for free - DS hoovered up loads

sunshineandshowers · 21/05/2009 22:44

Thanks fpr all the info.

After research we have decided to go for Pointe St Gilles, near Benodet. We liked that you could walk into town and the available mobile homes were better value than some of the other camps.

Hope everyone has a good time. x
