Where do you keep your caravan?

Dh has just brought us a caravan. He claims we can keep it on our driveway- is this the case? I'm worried that somebody will complain if we have a caravan parked permanently outside our house! Or maybe I am worrying too much? PIL could keep it on their land if need be...

Hi, we keep ours on our driveway but we have a long drive and it is not close to our neighbours so they can't really see it. At our last house there was a clause in our deeds stating that we couldn't keep a caravan on our driveway so we kept it in storage at a local farm.
If you check your deeds and it doesn't say anything then you're fine.

Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your caravan

I wouldn't keep it on your drive if it is a small front garden and blocking the veiw of neighbours, but if lots of room or you can park it up the side of the house then no reason not to, my MIL keeps hers at a local farmthat has a feild of caravans, costs about £100 for the year, they offer no security other than a large but friendly dog. Seen a growing number of caravans, camper vans and boats at another local farm, ask around or look in the caravan magazines.

We keep ours on a site - costs around £1,000 for the year but means no towing.

my parents keep theirs on their (huge) driveway

we keep ours on a friends farm

definitely look into local places to keep it, although it might cost you an annual fee it isn't the giveaway that you are on hols that a big-caravan-missing-from-driveway could be

our local farm store for 175£ outside, 250£ inside with security camera etc...for 6m
and we live on caravan site for the summer for 1000£ for 6m.i dont know much, but we live in newish housing estate and we are not allowed to keep caravan outdide due to open plan something like that anyway
non-toxic, is 1000pounds for whole year? thats cheap whereabouts are you?

hey my mil's is for the year and under £100

Lots of people keep their caravan on their drive, but you'd need to check your deeds/tenancy agreement and maybe have a word with any neighbours whose view might be affected by your van.

We keep ours in a secure compound on a farm, which is registered with CASSOA (Caravan Storage Site Owners' Association). If your van is kept somewhere CASSOA-registered, you can sometimes get discounts on your van's insurance.

Diva, ours is on a campsite in. Cornwall (we're not in Cornwall), which to be precise costs £1200 a year.

We don't do the towing to other sites thing.

I've also taken the seasonal pitch route, so my caravan/awning been all set up since early March and will stay so till end of October. It's a big twin axle and I found towing a hassle, this suits us perfectly. When I'm bored with the area, I shall move on.
Costs me about £1500 in south Dorset. Last year I spent all school holidays (inc 5 summer weeks) there.

Nontoxic · 01/04/2009 22:54

Ah, so it is possible to leave the awning up all season!

My DH insists it might get wind damage, then when we go for weekends says it's too short a time to bother with it, so we end up shoehorned into the van the whole time with me fuming.

springlamb · 02/04/2009 11:38

Well we put extra storm straps on it. But the advantages of walking into everything all set up far outweigh any worries. Dh only comes with us rarely as he's always away racing, so it's nice not to have to do all that pegging myself.
My sister had a seasonal pitch just outside Falmouth until she lost her £1500 Isabella awning in a storm (plus a lot of damage to her caravan), so perhaps Cornwall isn't a good risk.

We cant keep ours at our house beacuse of the open plan thing, but I wouldn't want to anyway. Surely if you do, then when you go away in it you are publicising the fact that you are on holiday if anyone fancies breaking into your house?
