Not that type but had a Khyam Ontario and was soasy to put up- DH could aone,so imagine these wuld be exactly the same tbh. Wouldn't have a tent without a SIG

thanks peachy. our previous tent didnt have a sewn in groundsheet, and as the bedrooms have them i was wondering about the wayfafer. do you cook inside your tent?

No, never; watched a few demnostrations of how long you have to get out of a burning tent (around a minute) toever try it. There are a few tents especially designed with a kitchena rea but other than that no. That's why we always add a pporch if our tent deosn't have one (Khyam sell a bolt on one) so dh we can cook under that instead

Hmmm, good point about the cooking. I'm really at a loss about what to get, whether to go all out and get a smallish frame tent that you can cook in, or a tunnel tent or something similar that would be easier to put up single handed. Dp is 6'4 so it'd be nice to have one that he doesn't have to duck all th time. Since my op i have read some very mixed reviews online about the chatsworth, that have really put me off. I have a budget of up to 400 pounds (though it'd be nice to have one cheaper, as i could buy it sooner :-))

How many people is it for? £400 can get yu a lot of tent if you shop well. Maybe start a thread asking, you'll get lots of ideas.

Be careful about bedroom length with a tall DP- some won't cut it very well.

I have just bought a utility tent by Outdoor Revolution - it's not too big and I'm using it as my 'kitchen'. Keeps everything under cover yet you can just step back straight out if anything happens. We'll pitch that separately from the main tent and campsites haven't charged us any extra for it.

this one

Thanks peachy and glitterknickaz (love the name).
the tent needs to house 2 adults and one (but hopefully 2 in the future) children. I was hoping to get one that i could put up myself as i am taking ds (3) away for a week by myself in august. The tent we have currently (has been in damp shed for 4 years) took 2 of us at least an hour to put up and take down.
However i am warming to the idea of a utility \ gazebo tent. That just might solve our problem. I could get one and a pop up to sleep in for august. :-)

we have one of the previous generation of khyams - it looks identical to the current range but without the sig - bedrooms have one though. i really like the option to have feet in grass tbh, feels more like camping, although it does come with a loose groundsheet.

we chose it because we wanted something with full standing room, a single large bedroom where we could all sleep together and something easy to put up. i can't put my finger on why but i really love frame tents (maybe it's the space, you never feel cooped up) and this one really does go up single handed - if necessary dp can do it while i herd the children out of the way. it takes a degree of strength to keep the central hub held up while you open it out, but i reckon i could manage it if need be. unless it's very windy - but i reckon you'd be hard pushed to put any tent up on your own in that case. (although almost everywhere we've camped there are other people about who would happily help out if need be)

it's easy to put up but not miles and miles faster - the initial putting up takes 5 mins, but you still have to guy it out (and for us peg out the groundsheet) which takes a long as any other tent, 20-30 minutes maybe.

i guess you need to weigh up the importance of e.g. ease of transportation - khyams like any frame tent are heavy and bulky - vs comfort when you get there. to have a decent amount of indoor space - for early mornings so they can play while you doze, or if it's raining - makes a huge difference when camping with kids ime.

Thanks for your post mwf :-) am still undecided, despite spending another afternoon trawling the internet.
I quite like the look of the outwell oklahoma day tent and it has good reviews, along with that the gelert twister 5 would offer good roomy simple to erect sleeping Accommodation. However, i really like the look of the gelert lakesbury 5 too. Ho hum. It'd really help to be able to see the tents on offer in rl tbh.
