You're welcome. I have a wynfields locally so we were eyeing tents up today! She will be happy in that and it will stop her clothes getting soggy and muddy when you go out onto the grass first thing in a morning.

Enjoy your camping trip.

5 weeks with ds4 but we ahd help from family.

However as long as you can keep a baby warm you're fine; once they'remobile its a bit harder, so i'd say go for it- and we have dione and had a fab time- but be aware that you will benefit froma travl cot /playpen and the warning not toexpect the same levelof peace

Have been camping with children of all ages. Never really seemed to be an issue- I don't really understand what the problems might be. We found that going to bed at the same time as them worked best, but they didn't go to bed especially early anyway even at 1 and 2 so it wasn't a hardship for us.

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 22/02/2009 17:10

I think dh was worried about it being too cold for dd

Our daughter was not quite 2 when we went on a camping trip in April in the back country of California. Granted, it was chilly at night (and we actually stayed in a cabin on the night it got down to -7C) but we were all four of us in a tiny little (2 person) tent and seemed to stay very cosy even in sub zero temperatures.

FrannyandZooey · 22/02/2009 17:32

we did at 10 weeks i think, but it was too soon

for me! i wasn't recovered from the birth
ds2 had a whale of a time

DivamakesKimchi · 22/02/2009 19:07

you will have great time. we went camping first when dd 15m, she loved every minute. last year ds was 9m, we had lovely time. the year before i was pg,camped at 33wks-36wks.

Mercy · 22/02/2009 19:13

Sorry but I have to agree with Helenn.

Ds was 18 months when he first went camping - he/it was a complete nightmare.

We have been camping with much younger children (the youngest being 5 weeks old!) but toddlers are a whole different ball game.

Different story if you have one child though.

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 22/02/2009 19:28

Oh no Mercy, why was it a nightmare?

I took my twins camping last summer - they were 14 weeks old!! It was great. Going again this summer

pleasechange · 22/02/2009 21:16

Can I just ask a stupid question - did any of you go camping while still sterilising bottles and was it a pain?

neenztwinz · 22/02/2009 21:23

Hi Allnew, I sterilised dummies and bottles using a bucket of cold water and Milton sterilising tablets. You have to change the water every day but that is the only faff really. You just throw the bottles/teats etc in the bucket and 15 mins later they are sterile. It would be harder than at home obviously cos of lack of workspace etc but you could make it work. When are you going? You don't need that many bottles each day now anyway do you?

dearprudence · 22/02/2009 21:29

You can sterlise bottles in boiling water, although I never had to do this. I took DS from 8 weeks, and at every age since (now 6).

As a baby he slept in moses basket then travel cot (doubles up as handy playpen). Move onto airbed when a bit older. A sheepskin fleece underneath keeps them toasty warm - one layer underneath is worth two on top when camping.

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 22/02/2009 21:32

Would you put a 22 month old in a travel cot, readybed or airbed?

Good idea about sheepskin fleece

I'd use the travel cot. They can't roll out and you can get them nicely tucked into the bedding. DS still had a grobag at that age too so he never got cold.

And if you're on a nice site with big fields and tents well spaced out, the freedom for children is fabulous. They can run about and grub around in the dirt to their heart's content.

Amybelle · 22/02/2009 22:11

My parents took me camping when I was under two. However, be careful about the travel cot. I somehow escaped mine and made it to the tent door. But then I never did like being told no and often climbed things!!

pleasechange · 22/02/2009 22:30

Hadn't thought of those cold sterilising tablets, but that sounds easy enough! We usually camp in Wales a few weekends in the summer so was considering going this year with little one - some good tips on here

DogMa · 22/02/2009 22:31

DS was 6 months - summer - no problem.

neenztwinz · 22/02/2009 22:41

Where in Wales allnew? We are thinking of Snowdonia this summer. Can you recommend anywhere (must have good shower block )

pleasechange · 23/02/2009 08:51

I like Bryn Gloch - it one a couple of awards and I think it's a really nice site. At the foot of Snowdon and not a far drive from Caernafon and nice beaches

Should really read my messages before posting them! Won not 'one'!

madhairday · 23/02/2009 12:48

Nah it's fab
went camping with dd at 9 months old, she loved the freedom of crawling on the grass, twas lovely and sunny which helped.
Not so great experience with ds at 10 months tho, it rained all week and site was a quagmire, spent most of the time trying to keep him out of the mud. don't go in the rain...that's all.

neenztwinz · 23/02/2009 14:32

Thanks allnew! Looks perfect.
