Im looking for a second hand folding camper. Im pretty clueless as to what type I should be looking for. Also as it will be second hand, what faults should i be looking for?

Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

i can only try - he is such a creature of luxury unlike myself who loves to really rough it. I might buy him a towbar as a suprise lol! removable hmmmm

cascade i hope you see this.... i just got a flyer through the door today about foldiogn campers from our local discovery centre anyway they have centres in chorley and weston and darlington and are selliong brand new folding campers half price - pathifnders are £5317 instead of 10,363 and pullmans at 4601 and conway ocntinentals 3352. Its a real saving - i can only think it must be the ones that dont have the new fancy pants canvas but who cares for that price! i am so gutted i wont be able to have one as just got a new car and bottomed us out. Even if we got one and kept it a year im sure we would resell it at same price or even a profit next year!!! ohhhhhhhhhhh ohhhh its not fair

RubberDuck · 13/01/2009 12:13

Wow that's an excellent price - I bet you're right about the new canvas thing.

rubberduck they have a few others as well but the continental looks just the ticket - we have a porta loo so that would save us 2k - oh hear me dreaming .... i am going to thrust it at hubby tonight when he comes in and the magazine ha ha

Make sure you pay extra and get an awning at the same time (and factor that into the cost).

Awnings on their own for folding campers are rarer than hens teeth if you want to get them later (especially if you want colour match) and they double your living area.

Was one of the main reasons we sold on our cruiser (only had a sun canopy not a full awning) so we could get one with an awning.

RubberDuck · 13/01/2009 14:41

To clarify: you can buy awnings for Conway Cruisers - just that the second hand one we bought at the time didn't have one, and it seems impossible to buy awnings on the second hand market separate to a camper!

the pathfinder mentions comes with awning - others dont.... interesting... i wont be gettign one anyway but bumping for cascade....

nappy im in the midlands, so will be a bit far too travel. Ive been reading the thread, great advice about the awnings. ive been looking on the websites you mentioned as well. It seems they are really popular. some campers are nearly 15 years old and they are costing over a £1000.

OH NO - is it not worth the travel to clinch a bargain? I have just been looking at ebay too even though dh has just told me he has no intention of ever getting one

cascade · 13/01/2009 19:29

5 grand is still a bit too much for me, I think my absolute limit is 3-4. Well thats if the other half will part with the cash.

oooh i just read your post again. Theres one for 3, how long would it take to get there? northants to darlington. Now ive got to persuade him to drive all the way there. mmmmm, dont think hell go for it.

it seems the different locations of there centres have different camper deals... under 4k we have penine fiesta at chorley wherever that is for 3841, conway contiental 3353 at weston and the others are over 4k. Hope that helps. The smaller folding camprs like the comanche brisa lx are advertsied at 1818 ar darlington and the comance montana at chorley for 2303. It might be worth contacting your localist one and seeing what they have before you make a trip as i imagine they would go fast for that then when you hate it you can sell it to me next year when my ds is old enough to not be ill and my dh has been badgered a whole 12 months

Do take into account that the Conway Continental is a very basic model - no electric, no fridge... (I suspect no hot water either as a result).

Obviously you can get your own electric connector and run lights etc with that, but it's not integral to the actual camper.

I wouldn't get any of them without having a good look around first. If you have a local stockist go there first, decide which model you like the best then shop around from there
