Camping with a 3 month old in August 09

Ok, so I could be worrying about where to have my baby, or what to buy for the nursery, but no, I'm worrying about a planned camping trip in August 09! Our first Baby is due beginning of May 09 and we have our annual family camping trip planned for beginning of August. Does anyone have any advice as to what we'll need to take? And of course what we won't need to take? I think the main thing we're worried about is baby crying in the night and annoying other campers!

We are seasoned campers and regularly do what we refer to as 'luxury camping' - large tent with large living area, air beds, plenty of cooking equipment etc (I realise some people would call this basic camping, but we also do music festival camping with tiny tent and just sleeping bags!)

Any advice most welcome!

You should be fine with a baby sleeping bag and a fleece blanket if required in Aug, but I've been in UK when hot in Aug (it was one year!) and dd1 just had the heaviest tog gro bag over night and was just right. I've slept with the kids next to me on air beds, sleeping mats and when in mega comfort camping travel cots. (travel cots in seperate compartments)

Not too much really if you're planning on bf.

Just somewhere for lo to sleep, a pushchair, maybe one with a carrycot which would double up as a bed (our windoo has served this purpose beautifully!) and a vast array of warm / cold clothing and blankets as you never can tell..............

have done it myself and found it much much easier than camping with a runaway toddler. If BF its really easy, BUT nipples do get cold at night when getting them out for a feed !

we managed with a 5 weeker last year

we had him in with us in the end but had a vango baby bag and something to sleep on handy also.

we are also 'luxury' campers- sun valley * and cobb LOL- and it wasn't an issue. Bas ahrdly ever cried in the night and as BF we could settle him rather quickly if he did.

Spent most of the trip sitting outside tent BF tbh. A comfy chair and it was fine.

You sounds like real camper, we did camping with one baby and two babies. We like confort and relax when camp, we dont do radios and tvs. We have huge frame tent and boat and trailer. You probbaly need travel cot for you baby, and take bath( i have folding travel bath) bouncey chair or take along chair. We used molton liquid for sterilesing, or plastic bag thingy( cant remember what it called) as bottle fed.IF breastfed less hassle. Not much really to say, i think its great when they are baby. Enjoy!

Miltos definitely easiest for camping sterilising yes (we started weaning Bas on a camping trip- obv not at 5 weeks LOL).

Chec out sites for baby equipment- East Fleet ddnt have baby baths but Sandy Balls did, Broadway House in Cheddar does- just e-mail them.

One thing I packed which was a godsend was my baby bath of all things. Quite difficult to wash a baby in a shower and baths not always available. My little one slept in my double sleeping bag with me and in an empty suitcase in the day.

I took my 7 week old camping and she loved it. I took a carrycot for her to sleep in but we ended up having her in with us. She was happy as anything because all we did was relax and cuddle her all day long (no housework and other such stress!). The only thing I could have done with was a baby bath (as already mentioned). I used the washing up bowl in the shower rooms but it was a bit awkward to say the least. Don't forget lots of warm clothes for baby. You'll have a great time.

Hiya if you do forget the baby bath i have admit to having used the washing up sinks for my lo when he was 5 months old, well they were so big, he loved it!

I took a 3month old camping (festival) because the year before I forgot to take the washbag with my mini pills in it!!!

camping and caravan club sites often have baby baths to loan for a deposit. Most have a family bathroom, some have a bulter sink for washing babies in.
