I'll start

Home Farm in Anglesey here
Went with 5 other families and took up one whole area of the site.
Able to pitch our tent which is large - Vermont XL.
Very clean toilet and shower blocks with free hairdriers. Also had a bath for children which was fab.
Great play area with a fence around.
Tennis court was also good.
Def go back.

Swallow Falls, Betws-y-Coed here
Not bad - shower blocks Ok at start of weekend but yukky by the end.
Had a play area but not fenced off at the end near the road so I was on edge about that.
Wouldn't go back.

so glad you liked Fforest Fields - it's lovely isn't it?

Palace Court Farm in Kent - lovely, had fire pits, lovely loos and showers, chickens roaming all over the place - would recommend

Camp Wowo, East Sussex I think - more basic, showers and loos not great but allowed camp fires, very relaxed would definitely recommend

Cloud Farm Devon just on the edge of Exmoor - beautiful again allowed campfires, got very muddy in the bad weather thougha dn shop was pricey but cakes were delicious, Woudl also recommend but take wellies

Just got back from Higher Harlyn nr Padstow, Cornwall. Wouldn't recommend. The Higher in the name should have given it away (as shoudl the 4 wind farms!) The shop was shit had nothing left, apparently bank holiday week is the close of season - wtf?! Also there were bloody orange street lights all over the place, I mean who goes camping without a torch, also where we had electric hook up (won;t bother with that again) there was a light on all night, great for if your sleeping area was right next to it!

Great idea for a thread!

We went to Ulwell Cottage in Dorset which was gorgeous; clean site, well lit at night, lovely shop, pool and pub doing food - no noisy entertainment and not noisy at night. Gorgeous, big, clean play area for kids. Close to Swanage and Studland. Loads to see locally.

and Deepdale Farm in Norfolk - basic site with only three showers for the site but good shop nearby and handy for the north Norfolk coast - we were looking for seals and saw lots!

wohmum · 03/09/2008 22:49

for anyone looking further afield , we went to Italian lakes - conca d'ora www.concadoro.it/eng/htm/cdo_home.htm . lovely if you can get a lakeside pitch but full of caravans and busy otherwise. facilities great.

also here in switzerland which was fab! lovely showrs with family rooms, great shop, ok restaurant and the best scenary in the world! and incredibly cheap (compared to the mobile homes on Eurocamp sites we had preiously used!)

Also stayed at Old down touring park nr longleat which was lovely, small, friendly and clean - but a bit noisy traffic at night as it is at the junction of a busy road - not main road or anything , but enough traffic to be annoying.

Glen Nevis campsite in Fort William in the Highlands of Scotland. A beautiful site with excellent facitilites - right at the foot of Ben Nevis. Some great things to do and beautiful scenery around there, really recommend it

Geogteach - we stayed at the same campsite in Delft, never went in the cafe/restaurant but liked the site and the farm next door. Found it was also great for cycling around the park and cylcling into Delft.

We also stayed at Westhove campsite in Zeeland and this was a lovely site on par with the one at Delft - better shower facilities (and the showers at Delft were good) Indoor swimming pool and a free indoor ball play area. Supermarket on site or 10 minute cycle to Domburg. A 10 minute cycle to the beach aswell there are some good beaches here and cafes on the beach.

The site also have a good play area and keep goats, which my dd loved to feed all our scraps. Again they had a kids club but it was all in Dutch so my dd wouldn't go.

There is also a sauna and you pay a few euros for an hour and 6 people can fit in. The toilets in one block are like onsuite bathrooms, some with double showers and heated mirrors for men to shave after the shower this is good.

A good site for exploring Zeeland. Middleburg is one of the oldest towns and has a lovely market and square. Veere is a lovely old cobbled quay with good cafe's and a harbour where you can go on a boat trip. You can cycle from one town to another and it is all on cycle paths away from the road - so smallish children can cycle safely away from cars.

All in all very very family orientated place to visit for a holiday.

Ps if you are going to delft Hout and have a large (over 3.2 meters outfit) forget it, there is the A12 bridge to get under and anything larger than 3.2 meters will not get under the bridge.

We stayed at acton field campsite near swanage
The views from the site are quite amazing and the whole area is beutiful

we visited corfe castle (great for kids to run around) swanage (lovely beach and we had fish n chips, throughout summer 2008 they had a foreworks display every satuday niight over the sea, visible from the campsite).
We walked from lulworth cove to durdle Door (amazing views) ands also went fossil hunting at Kimmeridge.
Also lots of great walks in the area

We didnt do but would have loved to (esp with kids) go on the steam train from corfe castle to swanage (we herd it go woo woo from out campite), monkey world, bovington tank museam, walk around Wareham (very pretty) and there is also Durlston country park walking distance from the campsite.

there is loads of other stuff to do in the area.... a family could EASILY spend a week there.

The loos and showers were kept clean and a van came round in the morning selling daily essentials + fresh doughnuts . Freezers were avaliable to freeze ice blocks (no extra charge)

The site is non bookable.... there are lots of other sites in the immediate area too

Went to Nortium farm in burnam on sea which is near weston super mare!

Do not go there! Full of foul mouthed familys and children. Road leading up so camp site is full to the brim of other campsites similer to this one - arcades, filthy fish and chips and children friendly (my arse) pubs! They need to clean this place up big time!

Peachy · 08/09/2008 15:57

sorry theonlyfemale but pmsl- you've got that place summed up well (grew up nearby (Bridgwarer), wouldn't pay yer actual cash to go there, though maybe to avoid!)

broadway house as usual fabulous (Chddar) but talk of a buy out by a mystery consortium

christchurch- imprpved (ranger actvities, better shop etc)

east fleet- fabulous, dh especially adored it, though we did posl at the Bode Familles on site

sansy balls- DO NOT tuch the cornfield, rain turned in into a horror story toilet wise; we got moved though onto the normal gravel pitches and then loved it. Think you need to know how to 'do' the place- parent slunch outside bistro whilst kids are entertaied in your sight in the piazza etc- once you get into its it is fab but took a few days of sussing to get it

Peachy · 08/09/2008 16:01

have bookmarked fforest fields- only\ 1 hr away!

casbie · 08/09/2008 16:34

Well Park in Tenby. Loved it as was small and quiet and the showers were pristine. Tenby was lovely!

La Petit Suisse, Ardenne, Belgium. Loved this site as was quiet but had a small pool, park and restaurant that did good food. Beautiful area, Roche en Ardenne absolutely gorgeous.

Woodlands, near Dartmouth. Am not a theme-parkey person. The kids loved it but we have 3 (6, 4 and 1) and the older ones were too small to go on some of the rides on their own so had to wait with me and the baby so tears and tantrums aplenty. Also, whilst there was the park to go into in the day, there was nothing on the campsite for the kids of an evening (there is a games room but the kids could not play them).

Trawdir, Barmouth. Really nice Managers who accomodated us as we weren't happy with our pitch but we dithering around. Lovely showers. Just thought Barmouth was a bit shit. We did travel around but road network meant it took aaaaaages to get anywhere.

Miyazaki · 14/09/2008 20:36

We went to Mellow Farm in May - campfires allowed, chop your own wood. 1 hour from home. Good. Slightly cross owner (all these people!) but would go back. Cheap.

Blackberry Wood in July - lovely. Went as a group, had Avalon, gorgeous. Some of the pitches looked a bit tight though. Have booked again for next year. Clean, v nice. Expensive tho. Campfires.

Hollands Wood in August - ok, huge site, nothing wrong, just didn't like it as much as I thought I would... maybe cos no fire allowed... I love a fire.

Bestival. Great when dry, awful when wet.

EachPeachPearMum · 16/09/2008 16:12

Oh Miyazaki yours sound so idyllic!
'Mellow Farm', 'Blackberry Wood'

Sounds like places the Famous Five would camp

jop64 · 07/10/2008 21:31

porlock caravan park (somerset and they do camping not just caravans!) is excellent. Not cheap but the facilities are exceptional - they've even got a loo of the year award!!
