We've just got back from our fifth camping trip of the year, and I can't wait to sleep in my own comfy bed tonight, instead of hard ground!

We're off on our next trip of friday though, love it.

Kids aren't allowed in the play area before 8.30am...but apart from that it's ok.
Mine are early risers (6.30am..demon chile) but as long as they stay in their tents and aren't noisy (talk but not shout..read..play quietly) then it's fine.
We camped in the tourer field though ..not the tent field...and it probably was a lot quieter than the tent field

ooooh I so agree with that sentiment this time. I was really sad to decamp last time after a fabby hot sunny week in Norfolk. This time we have literally bailed out early from Pembrokeshire after a rainy long weekend with only 10 mins of sunshine. I'm just out to the garden to swab down the groundsheet.

Then I'm going to phone Blacks and ask them if there's a reason that my new tunnel tent (3000 hydrostatic head) was liberally leaking all over the 'ceiling'.

Can't wait to be off again in a couple of weeks!

How else would a family of 5 get so many breaks in a year and see so much?

disneystar · 19/08/2008 07:51

we are a family of 7 we tow a caravan and all kids sleep in it me and my dh sleep in sleeping bags in the awning
so do i camp or not?

fortyplus · 19/08/2008 15:23

That definitely sounds like camping to me! [shivers]

We didn't cook and had pain au cholocolat and croissants for breakie (left over from days as a couple camping in SW france).

Cup of tea water heating was the only real cooking oh, and a barbeque between showers.

DS slept better in the tent than he does at home.

Considering moving into the garden until the temperature drops.

I miss the freedom the children had on our campsite and the views of fields and the sky. Our Brighton townhouse seemed very claustrophobic when we came home. And full of things I'm not sure we really need.

On the other hand it did make me appreciate my home and hot running water and my bed, although I do kind of miss sharing a double sleeping bag with ds3 and ds4 (ds won't camp which is a shame because I don't think I could have done it alone with my 5 without my cousin and her family on site). It also rained pretty much non-stop while we were away but when the sun did come out I could really imagine what a lovely holiday it might have been. It was my first since my own childhood and I have to admit when we got back it didn't feel like I'd had a holiday at all. Like most things the sun and a little bit of help go along way.

I thought I was a proper, hearty camper, but having an ear infection whilst camping in incessant rain in Cornwall this year and then being scalded by boiling water as my friend's camper van lurched in the mud, has made me realise that I am merely a fairweather one. How I loved that first bath, that first 3 glasses of wine, that clean towel, on my return.

But off again next week.
