Shell Island in Wales is a fantastic site, set next to the dunes and beach, its very large and has lots of great facilities. I was lucky enough to go there during that weekend heatwave last month.

If you goggle it, it has a good website with all the info. HTH

Star campsite in staffs. Just one mile from alton towers. lots of nice walks in the local area

misselizabethbennett · 12/08/2008 17:12

Don't be sending new people to Shell Island 1wish. It's hard enough to get on at the weekends already!!

Actually, though, it is a fantastic site, where you can pretty well get what you want, whether that's a quiet 'back to nature' style pitch near the sand dunes or a busy family field.

You can even do what some people (inexplicably) do and camp right next to the bogs and spend every evening in the on-site pub.

1wish · 12/08/2008 18:59

That sounds pretty similar to what we did misselizabeth

It was Sil's idea though, i think she thought it would be like Benidorm or something (no class)

I wanted to camp in the dunes (so romantic, swoon, alas no, had to camp near the toilets )

anniebear · 12/08/2008 19:09

lol, have a static caravan! a nice luxary one, then have just gone mad and bought a tent!!

so have both at the mo

static fees too high thought so we may have to sell

I would say a quiet site , but it would be anything but with my 6 yr old twins and one with SN!!!!! lol

kids play area would be nice, but dont want any entertainment/pub/club etc. gorgeous scenery would be a bonus lol

Not bothered about a pool

thank you

we have both too annie

daft eh?

the last weekend the weather was nice we did both! lol

I know what you mean about site fees being astronomical, but, like cars, there is a big loss on statics as soon as you buy them

Gibraltor Farm is nice for camping at Silverdale. Not really the Lakes but is right on the beach, overlooking the sea. No facilities really but there is a great pub within walking distance ( a proper pub that welcomes families, not a "family" pub IYKWIM).

there is LOTS to do in the area and is a lovely, rather overlooked part of the countryside

anniebear · 12/08/2008 19:35

thanks, sounds lovely

we got told the fees go ou around £50 a year, £100 the most, but we were obviously lied to

as it has gone up loads.

Just dreading to think what they will give us for it!

Hi annie bear we went to cwmlanerch 2 years ago with ds-nearly 1 with a tent they did have motorhome/caravan area but ws not v.near the tents its a lovely site and the owners great but you cant book- we went late august and it was fairly quiet with tents just round the outside of the field but did begin to fill up later on in the week.
Betys-y-cowd is fab-only 2 miles away. There was a bit of noise one evening but they soon got it sorted
Definately recommend

We went to a nice site in Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales. There isn't a play area but the tents go around the edge of the field so the kids can run around in the middle. Have you been on ukcampsite.co.uk there are loads of reviews for sites on there. The one we went to is Bainbridge Ings

anniebear · 14/08/2008 17:52

Thanks

yes, have beeen reading on there

Thank you
