there must be something good about it for you all to do it!!!

we bought our first tent the other day

made up to see a camping section on here lol

but so far Im panicking after reading.....

  1. Its freezing.....hats and socks required
  1. you need wine (I dont drink!!)
  1. maybe best to pre book a hotel nearby!
  1. can never sleep properly, punctures in blow up beds
  1. constantly rains!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  1. gales, struggling to put tent up, worrying it will take off
  1. struggling to keep food cold
  1. too much to get in the car
  1. awful people singing till 5.30am
  1. need ear plugs

I'm thinking we need to take our tent back and get a refund!!

there must be good points? !!!

because when the weather is nice there is no better holiday for the kids, and if the kids are happy, I'm happy

plus I can go away for longer as it costs far less

there is nothing so nice as the smell of fresh coffee and bacon frying in the morning!

cardy · 12/08/2008 09:21

I'm with you anniebear...can't see the attraction, well at least in this country!

Blandmum · 12/08/2008 09:26

For me, weather is an issue if it is wet. And wet all the time. I don't mind the odd shower.

I'm mostly a softie camper in France where the weather tends to be better (as long as you go further south than Brittany)

anniebear · 12/08/2008 09:28

cardy , you are meant to be telling me some good things lol lol lol

MB, that does sound nice!!!!

Much cheaper than staying in a B&B
Playgrounds for the kids
Get up when you want
Like listening to the rain on the canvas, makes me fell all cozy.
Having BBQ
If a bit chilly we get an electrical hookup and plug in our convection heater, keeps the tent really cozy just before we go to bed and then it switches on automatically in the morning.

We are going to expand our horizons next year and try france.

Our friends returned from the Cote D'Azur on satuday and said it was still 30degrees at nine o'clock a night. I sure I will moan that that is too hot.

I love to see the kids playing out with all their pals that they have met on the site, its such great fun.

We have yet to go away and not experience torrential downpours, and we still find it fun.

i prefer caravans for hire. those with their own toilet and shower facilities.

TheMadHouse · 12/08/2008 09:44

We camped before the children because it was easy, quick and fun. We got to see loads of the UK for not a lot of money.

We are doing our first trip with the children over the bank holiday.

We are doing it because:

We want them to enjoy the outdoors
No TV or other distractions
Inexpensive holidays
I have two boys and I want them to enjoy outdoor life
I want to give them the freedom that camping brings
Nostalgia

The smell of coffee in the morning.

The patter of rain on canvas (though admittedly only appealing at night!)

Lo's playing 'till nighttime with new found friends.

Planning and eating gorgeous al fresco meals.

Feeling very healthy and virtuous from living outdoors (and getting a fab tan)

Sunsets.

Only got back two days ago, can't wait for our next trip.

Cod is posh mobile homer! Who goes to select sites that the bishop recomends

cardy · 12/08/2008 09:45

whoops....sorry

OK - space and freedom for kids to run around.

just do it where the weather is likely to be better...i.e. not the UK

Children love camping.

I think it's particularly important for city kids, for families on a budget etc. It's an opportunity to (sort of) get back to nature.

And if the weather is crap, everyone is in hte same boat.

Cappuccino · 12/08/2008 09:46

because disabled accessible cottages are in the middle of nowhere and cost a lot to rent

cardy · 12/08/2008 09:47

WTWTG - Where did you go?

Blandmum · 12/08/2008 09:48

Ohh are you going to the same place cod?

If you are, and you didn't have a go last time try the vepo rail. My mates went this year and they had a go and said it was great but book it for 4 hours

tiredemma · 12/08/2008 09:48
