Am I deranged for considering taking fairly new baby to festival?

He sleeps pretty well atm which is why I am feeling tempted
before he was born I was thinking no way
however festival is not for 6 weeks - anything could happen during that time couldn't it? I mean he could start waking up all the time etc etc couldn't he?

I am not usually marvellous at putting up with things being rather awkward or whatever, so please base answers round fact I am a wuss

I wish I had a crystal ball

It sounds like great fun to me, even though I've only vaguely heard of about two acts playing.

FrannyandZooey · 04/08/2008 21:12

oh elkie I know
i am not going for the music, that is dp's bag

MrsC that is the other thing - the car journey
it's about 4 hours IIRC

TBH Franny my gut feeling is no. I can see how it could be lovely and easy and fun. I can also see it being awful and wet and sicky and cryful.

Okay - when you think about it is the overriding emotion fear or excitment?

From my end the computer says 'non'

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2008 11:03

oh really?
oh dear
I feel excitement and joy because I think it would be as nice as last year
perhaps it would just piss all over those memories though? oh dear

Do you have a large, comfortable tent?

I'd be tempted if so - But the tent we have (have been to a few festivals but not with a brand-new baby ) is on the small side and you cannot stand upright in it so that aspect would put me off.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 05/08/2008 11:13

The only problem I find camping with babies is middle of the night crying if they wake everyone else up. Otherwise it's easy and the younger the better/easier. Middle of the night crying may not be a problem at a festival though, depending on the festival.

We took ds1 when he was old- about 3 to sidmouth. He woke up at about 3am and started screaming the place down - which set off the next door field of donkeys who started ee awing like crazy, then you could hear tent after tent talking (muttering). I was mortified.

So don't camp near donkeys.

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2008 11:24

bernard yes it is quite large

jimjams that's what put me off - last year someone in nearby tent had young baby and it did cry a lot in the night - ds2 doesn't, so far, though - however he is only 2.5 weeks so maybe will change by sept?

Could you splash out and maybe hire a camper-van or caravan for the weekend? Might be more comfortable for you all and less stressful if the baby is unsettled in the night

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2008 11:28

ooh lord no
not after what we spent on this tent last year

If you do decide to go, have a great time

I love festivals (Except Womad last year when I feared we would all get trenchfoot and were squelching around with babies and small people strapped to us like displaced persons)

twoboots · 09/08/2008 16:49

I am taking my 3 month old to end of the road in september. To save hassle and room in the car we are hiring a tent via tangerine fields. We will see how it goes!

BBBee · 09/08/2008 16:58

but that is just me - I mean I am a crap camper - I don't like insects and wetness and coldness and stuff.

if you are more hardy to such things then do - i just know I wouold be crap and resentful and vengeful and stuff.

filthymindedvixen · 09/08/2008 16:59

I seriously looked into coming to EOTR Franny (with fantasies about helping you out with your boys) but it would mean taking boys out of school on friday right at start of term so I think it's a no.

I really don't know what I'd do in your sitation. i think I would wuss out. Festibvals can be hard enough work even with big ones sometimes - especially f the weather is crap. And even in 6 weeks' time, you will be knackered even if Little dude is sleeping well, you may not.
