So we slept in the garden in our new tent and I had the most uncomfortable night ever

Our airbeds had gone mouldy so we bought new self inflating matresses, tried them in the shop and waxed lyrical about how fab they were. 3.30am dh left the tent and went to bed indoors, but is forgiven as he's post op and has stitches that were painfull. I have a v sore back . The matress was a 5mm outwell one, we are considering buying another and lying it on top, but not sure if this is just chucking money away. Any ideas? I really liked not having the waterbed feel of an airbed.

I bought a bolster from Ikea instead of a pillow. It's about the same length, about half the width, (which to be honest isn't a problem) and takes up less space in the car. And it's got such a cheerful print on the fabric I love it. I heart my bolster.

i think our tentg is fairly tiny

put it this way we put a sinle fitted sheet over bothe our mats and that filled the entire tent

pookamoo · 28/07/2008 22:24

bolster is a great idea!

Haven't actually tried it under canvas yet but the combination of an aerobed active with a memory foam topper was very comfy when we practised camping on the bedroom floor the other night.

We have a triple decker king-size airbed. It's inflated with an electric pump, but we've just found one that works via the car battery to do the job too. I think it's really comfortable, but it does take up most of 2 x 2 sleeping berths! We have an optional divider between the two sections, so turn the bed the other way so it's not touching the walls of the tent as it's a lot higher than a normal airbed. Weighs a tonne though, and has a bag nearly as big as the one our tent should fit into!

scanner, so glad to hear the Lake was brill. I knew it would be, those Outwell are fantastic....and I see you have a penchant for the plaid curtains also

Any thoughts today on new sleeping arrangements? I bet the sleeping on a hill contributed to the discomfort.

we have a coleman comfort air matress. Its a double but each side inflates separately so you don't get the 'waterbed' effect when the other moves!

We just had the best 5 nights sleep ever!! So many of our camping trips have been marred by a bad nights sleep and it seems each time we go we have a different mattress or sleeping bag combo and they have never worked very well until now. We bought ourselves the Kingsize Excellent Airbed by Outwell and two Coleman Hudson XL sleeping bags zipped together - the airbed was super comfy felt no different than the bed at home and it didn't go down in the middle of the night and we were super snuggly warm. Finally cracked it I think

So are DH and I alone in camping with our flock airbed, mattress topper, sheet, feather duvet and pillows combo? We DO like to be comfortable y'know..

Chocolateteapot · 31/07/2008 06:44

No Washersauraus, DH and I are right there with you apart from the feather duvet, I can't do uncomfortable anymore now I am pushing 40

Washersaurus · 31/07/2008 10:45

I'd make a rubbish backpack type of camper that is for sure

squilly · 31/07/2008 19:36

I bought an aerobed active. Got it from a German site and used it (in the house, admittedly) yesterday. It didn't feel different to my usual mattress. Very comfy. And I'm told they don't go down too easily.

piratecat · 01/08/2008 20:04

when i see those really deep thick flock airbeds it makes me want to imagine a bedside table next to them.!!

Janbo25 · 01/08/2008 20:34

I am the worlds worst sleeper if not in my own bed, however I am a regular camper and I use after various attempts and hundreds of pounds on the vergeof giving the camping life up.

A Double Aerobed Platinum quite expensive but nothing like an airbed and extremely comparable to your own bed, they have various ranges including a camping range however I sware by the platinum edition!!!! no more uncormfortable nights sleep!
