What are camping holidays like with small dc? we have never been into abroad anyway, we usually go to the south coast and stay in a flat. i would however like to be able to go to closer places just for weekends ie Fri and Sat nigh or even just sat night to get away some times, Is it a nightmare with littleys? What would we need, would we fit it ion the boot of a Fiesta and woul;d a tippee be any good?

I doubt very much you would fit a canvas teepee in the back of a fiesta. Well you might if you put the seats flat and left your DC at home

If you were only planning on doing 1 nighters you could do away with all the cooking paraphanalia. you would still need something to sleep in and on.

You could do it just with a small touring tent, bedding, and muesli bars (oh and a wine box)

Can you fit a roof rack on a fiesta?

Slubberdegullion · 23/06/2008 19:30

oh and 2.5 and 5 is absolutely doable.

electricbarbarella · 23/06/2008 19:32

i think we could probably fit a roof rack or a top box or something along those lines.
I just really like the idea of saying had a crappy week lets go somewhere.

That's why we got our w/e tent. DH says no to full on 2 weeks in a tent in the UK currently, but packing the car up on a friday and whizzing away to a lovely field with a view somewhere for a night or two sounds lovely.

Even for 1 or 2 nights though there is a whole heap of essential clobber. You will need a roof box.

electricbarbarella · 23/06/2008 19:41

so what do you need, we have an inflatable matress thing and the girls have ready beds although i don't think they will be warm enough.
I just find the whole idea very us IYKWIM, we love being outdoors but don't spend as much time as we should there.

oooh this is my first list on a camping thread.

I am such a complete newbie at camping en famille. I feel like a fraud offering you advice.

OK here goes....

Tent, pegs, mallet
matress/ready beds etc
sleeping bags & pillows
blankets (to go over and under bed)
Chairs (DH and I just sit in camping chairs and eat off our laps, the dds have little folding chairs and a little folding table)
Plastic backed picnic blankets to sit on.
Stove
pots, bowls, cutlery, sharp knife
bottle opener
wine
wine
biscuits
cake

ahem
washing up bowl
ice box or cool bag and a few ice block thingmies

torches/lanterns/head torch
matches

did I mention wine

erm

there is more I'm sure....

i camp by myself with 2 dc i have a peugeot 106, we only just fit in tho. no roofboot but i have the bike rack on the back! we did fit with xp in once but would never do it again as there were things piled on everyone.

www.ukcampsite.co.uk was recomended to me on here. i have used it a couple of times this year already. i booked for bank hol weekend at end of may 3 days beforehand so you should find somewhere fairly easily

Why not try a ready-pitched tipi somewhere like here to see how it suits you?
