So I book a campsite for Friday evening for me and DC as DH is away - and I've now looked at the weather forecast!

RAIN! Thought I'd be brave and take DS1 (6) and DS2 (4) away for a practice for our main holiday in the summer. Local campsite, need to be there for about 5.30pm. Didn't think to check the forecast until just now and it's gonna pee down! Can't back out now as I've paid for the pitch. I'm sure it'll be fine and we'll have a lovely time.......

You will have a lovely time i'm sure, but only if you've got proper clothing to keep warm and dry in. If its a smallish tent then it shoudln't take to long to set up. Take a cool box with friday nights grub in (picnicy food) so that if it does rain you don't have to be outside in it! kids just love it, rain or shine. be a kid yourself this weekend and just go with the flow. enjoy!!!!

I'm sure the kids will love it whatever the weather. Like milky says make sure you have waterproofs etc and also plenty of things for the kids to do inside if it really chucks it down. Have fun...

Had a fab time! The boys loved it - esp staying up late and playing footie with some lads on the campsite. We had baked beans with smoked sausage and pasta for tea outside the tent (real camping style) and a scambled egg/spaghetti and smoky sausage on Saturday morning (was raining at this point!). Boys loved minature railway and the adventure playground in the park next door. I managed to put my neck/shoulder demonstrating the zip line in the playground to the kids so am in agony now (note to self to not be so stupid next time) but DS1 (6) had a go and it was hilarious! DS1 was so knackered on Friday that he slept in until 8am - unheard of!
Top tip - insulated mug for coffee/tea. I had a coffee last over 2 hours and it was still warm! Kept me going!
Other top tip - don't rely on sat nav to get you where you want to go! Mine tried to direct me through a "ford" (think fast flowing river!). Common sense suggested that this probably wasn't a good idea as DS2 was chirping "Mummy is lost....we have to go home." from the back seat of the car.

By the sound of the description were you at Wellington Park? We were there a couple of weeks ago and it was fab!

DrZeus · 21/06/2008 23:20

Yep! We live about 20 mins away too so it was a breeze getting home (without the aid of the sat nav - just looked at the roadsigns - doh!)

we are going for the first time next w/e too (providing DS3 ever stops crying that it)

handlemecarefully · 21/06/2008 23:41

Weather forecast is completely unreliable though - especially anything more than 24 hours in advance

milkybarsrus · 22/06/2008 21:47

thinking of going there myself, looks fab. so please let me know all the details.

Here is the info about camping @ Wellington Country Park and here is a map of the park. Loads to do for little ones. Even better if you get good weather! We paid £18.50 to stay for a night (they had a cancellation, otherwise they ask for 2 nights). It would have cost £16 to just go in for the day.
