Anyone know of any that just do 2-3 nights during the Aug Bank Hol or even no bookings at all, but likely to get in because huge??

Not very fussy really, a children's playground of some sort would be my only requirement.

We're taking some friends camping for the first time so want to convince them it's a great way to holiday!

Normans Bay here is lovely, dunno about August bank hol but I've been over Easter before and only stayed for a couple of nights. Can't remember if it has a playground, as we haven't been for a couple of years...

You will need to book, though, as it fills up. It's 2 nights minimum at weekends IIRC.

www.caravanclub.co.uk/Planning+Your+trip/UK+Trips/Site+Search+and+Book/Club+Sites/Site+Detail.htm?cs id=DALEACRES this one is lovely, but owned by the caravan club. Think it does tents too. Childrens play area and a lovely part of Kent.

Do you need a children's playground - or will a beach and trees to climb do? We love Folkestone Warren Camping and Caravanning Club site.

Thanks everyone, will have a look at this later - at work now and just logging in quickly whilst bosses back is turned!

Is West Sussex too far? We went here last year. It was a lot larger than the usual sites we are used to but we enjoyed it. Childrens' playground is well-fenced in a giant sandpit and has cctv. No booking required and you can have as many (or few!) nights as you want. Also, and this is the reason we picked it at the time, you can choose where to pitch and they don't charge you extra if you have a big tent.

Oh dear, just had another look at their website and it says minimum night stay applies over bank holiday. Never noticed that before!.

I love the look of Scotts Farm Pixel, it sounds just what we're looking for. The minimum stay might just mean the Fri, Sat, Sun over a BH so I'll give them a ring.

Oh good, I wasn't just rattling on with the wrong advice as usual .
It's not a bad site for novice campers who you think might be put off by too much 'getting back to basics'. There are pubs/chippies/Tescos etc 10 mins walk away if they get desperate and the site shop sells ice for your gin and tonic!
The one thing I will do when I go back is to take one of those over-door hook thingys for the shower as you only get one little hook to hang your clothes/towel etc on which is very awkward, especially if you have a small child sharing with you. There! Tip for the day .
