sleeping baby in caravan

ok so not camping but we don't have a caravaning topic.

we have side non-fixed bunks in our caravan.

up till now dd has slept in her pram cot but she is too big for it now. what is the best solution you have found to keeping them on the bunk or for sleeping them in the caravan before they are old enough for a bed.

We used a really small travel cot.

my parents made a "cot side" for the top bunk of their caravan for when we went away with them (bottom bed was a double) - a metal bar along the top, and a piece of material doubled over the bar, and tucked under the matress. You can get round bits which will hold the bar at each end whcih screw/glue onto the wall. We called it the DD1 Defense System, and it worked!

we made a similar cot side for dd on a narrowboat

I always used a normal folding bed guard in the caravan.

Mine have always been fine with that, but then again, mine have never slept in cots, so were used to beds.

Not had any problems with them falling out though.

how about removing mattress and putting on the floor next to the bunk.....

mum2oneloudbaby · 10/06/2008 14:25

thanks for the suggestions seems we were thinking along the right lines.

i would love to remove and put on floor nappyzone however due to layout that would mean we would have to climb over her if we wanted to move from our bed to awning or bathroom not very practical but it may come to that depending on how it goes.

If she is sleeping on the bottom bunk you could just put loads of cushions and a duvet on the floor beside her about 18" high, then if she does roll out she won't hurt herself.

Or if you still have your cot side take that with you and use to block her in, gosh, that sounds awful, like you are putting her in a cage or something!!

TARTANKNICKERS

if they've never slept in a cot did you co sleep or did you just put them straight in their own bed?

TartanKnickers · 14/06/2008 23:10

NAPPYADDICT:

We co-slept for the first 4 months, then they went into beds.

I had a set of bunks(bought with long term use in mind) where the first set of twins topped and tailed, then split them and did the same for the second lot.

I just found it much easier when they were toddlers - they could just wander in in the mornings instead of crying for one of us to come and lift them.

It's each to their own though eh? Co-sleeping and sharing beds never bothered me. Now they all love their owns beds (youngest is 3) and only come in with me if they are poorly.

TartanKnickers - did they go into proper single beds or the low toddler beds and did you use a guard?

TartanKnickers · 16/06/2008 14:33

Proper beds - it was a set of wooden bunks and we used a guard - well two guards as the kids topped and tailed. There was a space between the guards they could wriggle out of when they got bigger.

nappyaddict · 16/06/2008 16:35

oh right a bottom bunk on bunk beds is quite low isn't it.
