We just got an ancient MoHo and so I’m looking ahead to next year and wondering whether there are any festivals MN would recommend going to…..

will be first time for me and the kids at a festival but we would like to give it a go and try a couple….. OH won’t come as he hates all that.

kids will be 14 & 10

where would you recommend (we will drive from London / Surrey border - so from within M25)?

other questions….

  1. Would you team up with other families or just rock up and hope the kids find friends?
  2. would you camp in the children’s area at the festival? Or is there a great place you would recommend instead?
  3. assume festival goers leave dogs at home?!
  4. Whaf do you think of….
  5. camp bestival dorset
  6. latitude
  7. Isle of Wight
  8. Shindig
  9. Wychwood
  10. Festival of Sport Holkham
  11. gone wild Devon
  12. CarFest Hampshire
  13. green man Wales
  14. end of the road Wiltshire
  15. ocean fest croyde
  16. The great estate Cornwall
any tips gratefully accepted.

I felt that Bestival was aimed very much at lower primary aged kids. Green Man had a really good area specifically aimed at 13-17 year olds. At Green Man, the main campervan/motorhome campsite is slightly apart from the other campsites with its own entrance. There’s also a smaller campervan area for people who want to stay a whole week, not just over the weekend.
Latitude used to have an area for teens but I think they’ve done away with it.

(I’d never heard of Green Man festival until I started to look at possibilities for next year!)

I’ve been going to the Back to the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s festival since 2019. My youngest son (now 13, so 9 in his first year) started coming along in 2021, my middle son (now 17, 14 his first year) started coming in 2022. It’s a really lovely, family friendly festival - and not too big either!

It’s located in Leicestershire - next year is its 10 year birthday event and being advertised as the last one (but we think they’re just rebranding it). It’s at Cattow’s Farm near Ibstock.

We try to camp in the family camping field - but my husband is useless, always charges off ahead, and several times ended up pitching up right in the main camping field! This year we managed to stop him from doing that and the difference it makes is huge (if you value your sleep, stick to the family camping lol).

There are always loads of families there, so very easy to make new friends. The tickets are usually capped at 10,000 so it’s not massive meaning it’s a lot harder to lose your kids!

They haven’t announced any acts yet for next year, although the Vengaboys have it as a date on their tour schedule already so I imagine they’ll be there, but it’s usually a really good line up (especially if you like 90’s music - there aren’t many 80’s acts at the event). I think it’s £140 for an adult ticket - that’s the full weekend entry to the festival plus full weekend camping. Kids tickets are for 6-16 year olds and I think that’s around £40. Under 6’s are free and don’t need a ticket at all. If you want to use a campervan you buy the weekend camping tickets then one campervan ticket (which can be electric or non electric). Not sure how much that is.
