Hello!

WELL! We have a tent, and a week off!

We live in the Midlands and don't want to drive TOO far, so no cornwall/scotland -

So does anyone have any fab campsites that they can recommend? All we need is some peace, walking, and some things to do with our tot age 2, swimming pool, adventure playground etc would do it,

I know it sounds vague! But would much rather go somewhere we know people have had great service and a great time!

All suggestions gratefully received! Thank you, expert campers!

Hello!

You should look at Fforest Fields, Mid Powys

No pool but lots of paddling pools - if you look at the website you'll see what i mean.

It's on my list of 'campsites to visit' but it comes highly recommended on ukcamping.

Hi Lucycat! Looks lovely, thanks for the link!

I love the fact they spell it with two "f"s!

that'll be the Welsh

I think there is another nice campsite near Cotswold Water Park - maybe? not sure!

EachPeachPearMum · 28/05/2008 14:49

Whereabouts in midlands?
I like the look of this place- keep meaning to go!

RubberDuck · 29/05/2008 08:58

We've just come back from Kingsbury Water Park and its fab. Facilities are spotless, pitches are the most level we've ever seen, staff really friendly and helpful, excellent playground, lovely walks around the lakes, little steam train around the country park, children's farm next door.

It's a Camping & Caravanning Club site but non-members also welcome.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 30/05/2008 01:12

If you went for a week to a club site (like RDuck's suggestion), you'd recoup your years membership. Their sites are fab for young families.

RubberDuck · 30/05/2008 08:01

Plus you earn points on your club "passport" for each night you stay on a club site - get so many points and you get free stays, which is quite cool.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 30/05/2008 10:20

agree the club sites are good valu: one proviso though- check your tent fits their sizing, quite a few dont these days (its not tiny or anything but there are some big ones about these days )

RubberDuck · 30/05/2008 10:28

Peachy: if you book through the siteseeker on the C&CC site I think you specify how big your unit is - think that will help prevent any major issues...

PeachyWontLieToYou · 30/05/2008 10:36

ours is finbe bit they do actully have a maximum size after which you have to telephone and ask the camp sites if they can asccomodate- our ontario 8 just makes it and there are some monsters out there (eg the vango nile)

RubberDuck · 30/05/2008 10:38

Ah, I'll have to be careful about that then. Our folding camper is fine so far, but was thinking about getting a bedroom extension for the awning which may push us over a bit.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 30/05/2008 11:01

You'll be fine on most of the sites- our tent is just under 8m long, it has very long front porch and we've not had any problems. When you book, they'll ask for your pitch dimensions, so you'll know soon enough if you fit on the site. I think ours translates as a 7m pitch with awning.

RubberDuck · 30/05/2008 11:06

Oh that should be okay then. I think length without bedroom extension is 6.2m on ours. Don't know how big the bedroom extension is but it's not going to be huge, is it?

hashim · 30/05/2008 11:08

Have you decided yet?
My all time favourite camp site is Pencelli Castle in south wales. I'm sure it has it's own web site. It's super clean, excellent toilet/wash facilities, adventure playground, nature walks near by, family pub and a deer park/area.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 30/05/2008 11:09

I shouldn't think so, but it's something to bear in mind when you're choosing one.

hashim · 30/05/2008 11:10

www.pencelli-castle.com/

Has won lots of awards so must be good.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 30/05/2008 11:40

ours is 7.5m lol-

as dh says, motorhomes often bigger so there shouldn't be any issues, but....

we did have one site be arsey even though we'd told them, ever other one has been delightful though

PInkyminkyohnooo · 30/05/2008 11:48

They do get a bit stressed if the guy ropes go a bit near the road, sometimes, don't they. Off camping next week end, can't wait.

Looks a very smart site, hashim.
