Hi, me and some other Mums are thinking of taking our kids off for a few days camping over the summer - I am looking for a cheap, super-easy tent i.e quick to pitch and strike, I don't think there is any need for a large living/cooking space really as I am not anticipating us spending too much time in it, we will do fish and chips or pub meals for food. I saw the Gelert festival which is a pop up, looks cool but not sure it is quite big enough for me plus 2 kids - any other suggestions? I saw this one cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=250244043098&Category=36119&_trksid=p3907.m29 on e-bay but have never heard of the make - do you think it would be complicated to put up? Sleeping wise I was thinking of a double airbed for me because I am greedy and like to be comfy, plus the kids on either another double which they share or their readybeds if it is warm enough.

Looks like a reasonable size for the three of you but I don't know the make either. Colour is vile in my opinion but he ho!

Gelert, Outwell or Vango are your safest bet. Do you live anywhere near a Go-Outdoors?

I bought one of the Outwell pop up tents for my DH - as an over nighter for him and our son and it's fab. The Twister, however, is a pig to put down, so I'm told.

Don't buy off ebay unless you recognise the name. the fact that this says 'Festival' probably means that it isn't very waterprooof.

I wouldn't go camping in the UK in a tent with a Hydrostatic head (measure of waterproofness) of less than 2000, tbh 3000 for choice

Thanks MB and D2U - yes the colour is rather lurid isn't it. I like the look of the Outwell pop up but have visions of struggling to get it back into its bag at the end of the weekend - I even struggle with those pop up play tents you put in the garden! Sadly don't live anywhere near a camping shop but maybe it would be worth a drive out to one.

I've seen the outwell pop ups 'up' and they are great.

They are very much 'real' tents and not a 'Festival' pack that is only intended for one or two days.

Outwell is a very well respected brand, I have one and have used ut for years.

Re using an airbed, make sure that there is enough roon, as the sides of these types of tents to slope iwards quite a bit.

Most of the 'Sleeps' numbers are based on you sleeping on a mat rather than an airbed or camp bed

Oh and I've gone with the kids without dh, and it was fine. I went with a mate who's dh couldn't get a holiday

A good place to suss out campsites is UKcampsite.co.uk

Those Quecha (sp?) two minute pop up ones are the bees knees imo. Decathlon sell em.
