Couple of quick questions.

Are they a camping essential? (rl camping nut says yes oh yes)

Anyone care to recommend one. We do not plan on going pot holing (holeing? hmmm.....entering underground caves perilous activity), they would be for reading in sleeping bag and night time loo trips.

Thank yoooooooooou

Ds has had a "horch" since he was three, a Black Diamond.
Dh reported the magical scene last summer of twenty children with horches playing in and out of trees at dusk on their Dads and Kids camping weekend in Sussex.
Well, it would have been magical had they not all also been shouting "exterminate" and "supreme being" as well.
Great for power cuts, night fishing and wandering, reading...and playing. I am total convert.

Furball · 22/04/2008 09:41

are you near a aldi - on offer from next sunday

Farb · 22/04/2008 16:31

was that lapin, her of the shoes on a camping thread? well b........ (no lets not actually)

marina great story.

so PuppyMonkey and er lapin (seems too weird to be asking you a question here) do I really need to buy a £20+ one, or can I go with a cheap and cheerful Aldi, because £3.99 is much more like it considering recent tental splurges investments.

PuppyMonkey · 22/04/2008 16:33

Oh no, go for the cheap bogger I would!

Farb · 22/04/2008 16:36

Oh good. I really am not going to be doing anything even remotely energetic in it, not even tent nookie which must occur in complete black darkness.

We use the Aldi ones - and they still work from last year!

Surfermum · 22/04/2008 20:01

Great for reading in bed.

But don't do what I did. I went to bed drunk, put my head torch on and started to read my book, complaining heavily that the bloody batteries in the torch were running out already. Dh took one look at me and said "you silly cow, you've still got sunglasses on" .

Fillyjonk · 22/04/2008 20:07

oh lol

we'll we've never had them

a lantern will do if you are reading in bed.

I don't really see the point of them. Unless you WANT to look like a pillock

Milliways · 22/04/2008 20:17

If you have to crawl around sleeping pod looking for clothes etc they are great (when lantern needed in main compartment and you want to get changed).

Fillyjonk · 22/04/2008 20:19

ahhh

you people all have multiple compartments on your tents...

Milliways · 22/04/2008 20:23

When sharing with teenagers, compartments are advisable! Imagine Teenage bedroom mess....

Troutpout · 23/04/2008 19:51

We have had aldi ones for a few years now
..they are really good.

Farb · 23/04/2008 21:04

I think Wilkinsons have some at the moment - they had a few camping bit and pieces today - 10 spare tent pegs for £1.50. a contraption for making toast over a camping stove, etc...

Pixel · 24/04/2008 20:02

Lol, the vet came yesterday to rasp the ponies' teeth and he had a head torch. I actually thought "Hm Black Diamond, MN says they're good". I wouldn't have even noticed the thing if I hadn't read this thread .
(normally too busy gawping at utterly gorgeous vet )

they are fantastic. First time using them last year for camping, now couldnt do wihtout them. Brilliant for night hikes and any outdoor stuff. Felt a tad foolish the first time we wore them, must admit, but couldnt give a shit what we look like now!

Farb · 27/04/2008 14:52

I bought my bobby bargain ones in Aldi today. Thanks for the heads up Furball.

Lucycat · 27/04/2008 16:15

Just don't let your dh 'try them out under the duvet' farb - tis the way to marital discord.

Farb · 27/04/2008 16:43

lol. There was an "oh dear my husband seems to be 9 years old again" when he put it on flash mode and did a beep beep beep "I'm reversing" act.

tiredout · 18/05/2008 16:57

Nope you won't look like a pillock, which you might after the fifth time tripping over a guy rope. Especially essential at festies when you're camped v. close to your neighbours.

I find them v. useful when wiping make up/grime off face, cleaning teeth, looking for glasses or ear plugs (another camping essential) etc. Buy a head torch each or you'll be fighting over them!
