:( DH says that unless the weather cheers/warms up we can't go camping in two weeks.

We've recently bought everything we need for camping and have had this trip planned for a couple of months - a first outing for all our new shiny camping stuff and now the weather is cold and damp and it's not fair. Wail!

This is our lovely new tent!

It's meant to warm up though. Love that tent.

this is a good weather site

stealthsquiggle · 21/04/2008 09:52

Cool tent.

Looking on the bright side, if you don't go camping then you could hold my hand and we could both go to the Worcestershire meet-up?

LilRedWG · 21/04/2008 09:53

Thanks for the site. I so hope so. I'm like a big kid and very overexcited. DD isn't two yet and doesn't have a clue.

We did a lot of camping over the last two weeks - it doesn't have to be nice weather. Where are you planning to go?

lilolilmanchester · 21/04/2008 09:55

We are fair-weather campers, go camping only for weekends, and only if the weather is half-way decent. We go with a big group of friends. Some of them are hard-core campers and will go whatever the weather. We don't - I love camping when it's nice weather and don't mind the odd bit of rain. But to be cold and wet all weekend - no thanks. Am with your DH I'm afraid. Fab tent tho and can see it will be disappointing not to use it asap.

LilRedWG · 21/04/2008 09:57

We're heading to Gloucestershire - site is pre-booked.

Cod - because I had obey in my wedding vows.

Ah yes FMF - that lovely August weather. We tied the tent to the fence and car on the Polzeath cliff top - was a still a great holiday.

BettySpaghetti · 21/04/2008 09:58

yes, do come to the meet-up!

re:camping -was your planned trip a proper booked holiday? Or a weekend away? Can you rearrange?

We bought a tent last year (long story but we had a nights camping planned after a wedding party but seeing as the campsite was next to a river and ended up under 6ft of water we ended up in a hotel instead!!). We're hoping to use it this year but I don't think I'd consider it until June-ish.

LilRedWG · 21/04/2008 09:58

Lilo - I think we are looking at it mainly for weekend and I agreed from the start that it'd be decentish weather only, so my own fault.

Mega! We were on The Headland at Tintagel....One night, DH and I were the only thing stopping the awning from taking off. Twas like being in a ship in a strom, everything was swaying and whooshing and creaking...I was quite scared!

seeker · 21/04/2008 10:05

How about change it for a camp site really near home? That way if it gets too bad you can bolt home in the evenings. We do this in bad weather -our favourite campsite is only 25 minutes away! Where do you live? We'll find you somewhere nice not far from home!

stealthsquiggle · 21/04/2008 10:16

I am thinking that if you move much closer to home you might as well come and camp in our garden (or the pub down the road has a campsite but I am not sure if it is open yet)

noddyholder · 21/04/2008 10:17

We have had some fab rainy holidays.Moaned at the time a bit but look back with fondness.GO!

LilRedWG · 27/04/2008 12:52

Looks like I've worn him down The forecast doesn't look too bad for next weekend now.

I'll need help getting the tent up, but I can always send him home for the night if he whinges (only just over an hour from home).

A break is a break, camping is a family time without all the distractions of everyday life getting in the way.

tell him you are all going, he is going to enjoy it and stop being so bloody miserable

and tell him Lucycat told him that!

LilRedWG · 28/04/2008 08:47

I told him, "Lucycat said, ..." and he just said, "Okay, we're going... unless it gets too wet/cold.....".

He did eventually concede that DD would be perfectly happy with her wellies on, jumping in puddles if it does rain.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 28/04/2008 10:36

LilRed - She may be happy jumping in puddles, but she is also a toddler - I had a 30min discussion with my DD at the weekend.

DD - 'baas'
Me - 'OK, you can go and see the sheep but you need wellies'
DD - 'blue shoes ' (blue shoes = wellies)

I go and find wellies and attempt to put them on

DD - 'Nooooooooooooo'

DD - 'BAAAAAAS, Mummy'

(and return to beginning)

Moral - take lots of socks for DD - I lost (as ever) and DD went outside in her tights.
