Camping next weekend - is it too late in the season?

Thinking of taking my kids camping (tent) next weekend in the south of england. Weather looks sunny and dry temp up to 14 in the day but 5 at night. Would you do it or is it just a bit too late in the season now? We've got all the gear but I worry the kids will be cold/the colder temp will make it feel not as enjoyable for them? Or am I over worrying? Thanks

I would and have done it when my own children were small. I have even camped at Easter when there was a hard frost one night and we had to stick the Nutella in a pot of hot water, to be able to spread it for breakfast.
Take warm clothes - hat socks etc to sleep in and extra blankets. Take a hot water bottle if you want too. When they are small, everything is an adventure. I found camping spring / autumn easier with tiny children as they went to bed when it got dark and were't awake late and then up with sunrise.
Have fun!

We have camped in October half term several times.

Hot water bottles
Extra blankets
Do some star gazing.
Don‘t tough it out with camping all the way. Go to a cafe for dinner, or a cafe for breakfast if it is cold and raining.
Can you keep bags in the car so nothing gets damp?

Good luck and have a great time.

It’s a lovely time of year to camp. Have fun.

We have been camping in dry October half term several times
It's all about layers. Layers on the floor (I always add several layers of blankets under and over our mats. And sleeping leggings, PJs and tracky bottoms, vest, thermal vest and fleece on top. Hats and socks if needed.
This weekend you will be grand.

I once camped in the Lake District over New Year. It was only marginally more miserable than camping in the summer.

Yes - it's an adventure. If you haven't got a 3 or 4 season sleeping bag you can buy "liners" fairly cheaply that really can make your sleeping bags nice and warm. We also used some cheap roll up foam sleeping mats and some blanket/throws (the type you wrap yourself up in on the sofa in the winter instead of turning the heating up!) to add a layer of insulation inside on top of the groundsheet.

How and where are you planning on cooking/heating food up if it's horrible and rainy and windy - are you in a family sized tent or a smaller 2 man type?

We also always made sure we had a pack of cards and Yahtzee with us. You might find there is a very poor mobile signal so it's always useful to have a backup plan/activity.

I would do it but be mindful that the evenings are darker sooner and make any necessary adjustments, and also that the mornings are damper so you may need to dry your tent from dew when you get home.
