I would love to go camping for a weekend at a festival type thing with my family. Is there one that's any good for young famillies?

We have been to this festival for the past few years with our dcs (now 6 and 4). It's always been great for us all - pricey this year though...

Friends of mine go to the Green Man festival in the Brecon Beacons. Supposed to be lovely.

we are going to Camp bestival in dorset in july- with 4 kids (ages 13, 9, 5 and 3). cant wait it looks wicked and aimed at families. ltos of activities and entertainment for kids

sfxmum · 16/04/2008 21:47

latitude great for kids

Spidermama · 16/04/2008 21:48

I'm going to the Sunrise again this year with my four. It was GREAT last year. I would go to the Big Green but they're jot doing it this year. I always long to go to Buddhafield but for some reason I haven't made it yet. It's meant to be brilliant and familyish and very small for kids plus they ban alcohol and drugs so no-one's getting 'out of it' which is quite nice for families.

Dragonbutter · 16/04/2008 21:48

Shambala
The year that we went they had lots of activities for children and a healthy baby food cafe.

blisscake · 16/04/2008 21:59

Wow - there's loads aren't there. Am new to camping with kids, ours are aged 5.5, 2.5 and nearly 1 - are they too young do you think?

dd was 2.5 when we took her last year there were kids under 1 there as well a lot of them have family camping areas etc.

Pavlovthecat · 16/04/2008 22:03

beautiful days in honiton, devon. Think its in August.

Pavlovthecat · 16/04/2008 22:05

Maker festival in Cornwall, again think Aug but might be july? (or even June, sorry thats rubbish isnt it). I am not sure if it is family friendly, but know several families who go every year with children of all differet ages.

Buddhafields - absolute for families.

mazzystar · 16/04/2008 22:10

Green Man is fab, small-ish, folky-dokey, kids stuff, beautiful location.

Latitude is supposed to be great

Big Chill is too big and not chilled enough

blisscake · 16/04/2008 22:15

Whereabouts is Shambala? Wasn't clear from the website. Am in just checking out latitude and green man.... oh and buddhafields.

it's a secret

blisscake · 16/04/2008 22:22

Well how do you find out then?

OP posts:
Dragonbutter · 16/04/2008 22:27

It's at a different site to the one I went to a couple of years ago.
The website says it in northamptonshire I think and gives general driving distances. The full details are given with the ticket.
It keeps a fairly low profile which gives it a nice community type feel as opposed to a big commercial event.

Pablop · 16/04/2008 22:30

Been a few times because my mum lives here, very family friendly Sidmouth

Impatience · 17/04/2008 12:38

Solfest in Cumbria in August has whole areas of kid stuff, and loads of activities on, and lots of families.

We're also going to End of the Road near Salisbury in September. Not been before but is apparantly v small and v family oriented, and has no-drugs policy so should be lovely for the kids.

We did Womad last year, which was good fun despite the RIDICULOUS mud. We couldn't have done it without a sling: even our great off-road pushchair would have been grounded.

We have a few friends regard us with something like awe and envy when we say we're off to a festival as a family, but it's really not that hard and so much fun. I'd definitely recommend it!

blisscake · 18/04/2008 12:10

Dragon butter - thanks - I didn't spot it was Northampton.

So all you keen festival goers, do you think it would be stressful with three little ones or is it just all fun, fun , fun???

OP posts:
redwino · 18/04/2008 20:27

I'm going to Latitude this year with my DD.
It has a family camping field and lots for children. Its in Suffolk by the way near Southwold. Don't know if it will stressful as I am festival virgin. Are you going with another adult?
