campsite recommendation in france

I want to take my ds and dd on holiday to france. ds (2.5) dd (6 months). Can anyone recommend a campsite in france with mobile homes that would be suitable for this age group. I don't want to have to drive too far from the ferry port in Calais (2 hours max).

I would preferably like a safe pool and beach if possible.

I have looked a keycamp and eurocamp, but find there is so much choice, I am not sure how to find the most suitable considering the ages of my dc's.

my sisiter goes to holland from calais - she says the sites there are great. we go down to the vendee so too far for you.

oh i should add that eurocamp (same as keycamp) are really good, if you call them they can suggest sites that should fit what you need. their customer service is excellent, really recommend them, very freindly

When mine were little like yours - we went to Houlgate, Camping de La Vallee with Eurocamp. It's in Normandy and it was perfect for pre-school children, quite a small site, no disco's, teenagers, etc. It has one large swimming pool with a children's pool next to it but has no water chutes, etc. so doesn't attract older children. You can walk to the town to restaurants and/or the beach. Go to the Eurocamp/Keycamp website (I'm rubbish at doing links). It's worth a look.

you need to look at what is availabale

MrsBadger · 14/04/2008 19:16

look at the 'toddler friendly' sites in the Eurocamp brochure, which will narrow it down a bit and means you'll get a free cot and highchair for dd

completely agree with eurocamp - brochure is good and the staff are very helpful on the phone and on the campsites. what you need imo is small toddler pool, shop on site for last minute shopping and a beach nearby. try to avoid too much organised activities as it can be a bit noisy at night.

we have always done normandy/brittany/vendee going further afield as they got older - normandy when the youngest was 2

Canvas holidays are also very good. they are slightly smaller than the other outfits, whic will automatically cut down your choices (!). the people on the phones are also very helpful, and often know a lot about the sites

I'd check out ukcampsite for recommendations for sites then see if you can book direct, most big sites have a few vans for rent and they will always be cheaper than the tour operator.

Somewhere like this site?

dustyteddy · 15/04/2008 21:00

thanks for all your helpful suggestions. Can you suggest anywhere that has animals on site or a zoo close by as my ds really likes animals. Preferably close to calais. thanks.
