Hi
I would love to go camping as a family but dh is having none of it.

Do you think I would manange myself with 3 children who are 5, 2 and 3 months. Although I think I may leave baby with dh and just take the other 2. My worries are:

putting the tent up myself(haven't got one yetMay need a seperate post for that

security of it. Any mad psycho's may think we are easy to pick on as just one crazy woman with her two kids.

Has anyone managed to camp happily without another adult with them. Or, if not, do you ever see anyone else do this .
Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Let's take over a whole field somewhere.

quite tempting. would invest in poncy canvas bell tent for that one! as good an excuse for a new tent as any.

I took ds's camping for the first time on my own last summer - they were 5 and 3 and it was great. I was exhausted when I came home, mainly because dp wasn't there to help, but other than that I put the tent up, cooked sausages and stuff and felt very safe.

I borrowed a friend's tent - the Khyam quick erect - and if I've got any money this year I'm going to buy one the same. It's fab - all the poles built in and you just snap it all in place. Took me about 30 minutes to put it up on my own for the first time, and the same to get it down, but I reckon I'd get quicker with practice.

We stayed camped in Edale which was next to the visitors' centre and had park rangers around, so felt safe.

The boys loved and and I'm really proud for doing it!

It took me ages to post this as I thought noone apart from me,would consider camping with kids themselves. Great to know I am not the only crazy one out here .

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to sit down with pen and paper and write down name of tents and camp sites suggested.

The mnet camping trip sounds fantastic to me. Can any kind, hardened campers suggest a good site and time of year to do it. Thanks.

riven-thanks for the invite. It was very kind of you.
I would have loved to join up with you's but I am in Glasgow on the 18th for my God daughters communion and dd1 is at school during the other dates mentioned. Unless you's are camping anywhere near Glasgow then I could join you's on the 17th!

I've camped on my own with DS, since he was 4. I think the only issues would be keeping an eye on the 2 year-old when you are putting up the tent etc - and traipsing them all to the toilet block every time you need to shower, wash-up etc. And don't pick a windy day for putting up and striking your tent! Although the 5 year old will love helping.
