UK woodland campsites like Low Wray

Hi all

We are camping converts over the last couple of years (dictated by finances really) and we’ve been to a couple of forestry commission sites and also Low Wray in the lakes. We absolutely loved the fact you have the option that their woodland pitches are individually spaced giving it a more secluded feel, rather than all next to each other in one big field.

Are there any other woodland campsites in the UK with that feel or style? We like quiet campsites but a decent shower block is a must. Thanks for any recommendations!

Equally interested in coastal or lakeside camping sites with individual pitches to be fair: mainly interested in pretty locations with good walking, cycling and running spots.

Lots in Sussex

Blackberry Wood, The Secret Site, Beech Wood Estate, for example (not water or lake side though)

We’ve been to Ashurst, absolutely lovely. Having the ponies by the tent in the morning was amazing.

We had a lovely stay once at Dernwood Farm (as mentioned by PP) in Sussex Weald, in the woodland bit.
There are lovely walks and countryside around it and it was very quiet (not school hols tho)

Should note this was pre kids, with not a huge amount of stuff. You have to take all your stuff in a wheelbarrow from the carpark so we probably wouldn't do it with our small children and would be a bit much. Older kids fine though.

Same at the secret campsite. Very good and big barrows though.

We just got back from Barham Woodland Camping in Devon - it was wonderful. Off grid but more secluded pitches and lovely owners.

We stayed at Low Wray for the first time this year and loved it. Loved how the pitches are spread out so you don't feel on top of other people.

Only other vaguely similar place we've stayed in the UK is here, but we were in a campervan then, I'm not sure what the tent pitches are like

Dragonfly camping in Pembrokeshire. Love it

thanks for the thread - am busy noting down all these!

Lurking for ideas!

Sallochy Bay on Loch Lomond and Loch Achray are both lovely but no showers and short stays only. But similar vibe to Low Wray.

Ah no, the showers are an absolute non negotiable! 😂

A good few around Aviemore - I have found Dalraddy best, but do ask for a woodland pitch when you book as they have a few pitches around the loo blocks that feel less private.

Rothiemurcus is a lovely spot, and you definitely feel 'in the forest'.

If you want a proper Highland adventure, then Glen Affric in the autumn is the finest autumn views in Scotland IMO. Campsite is a touch more basic, but showers are hot and lovely cafe on site

Glenmore at Aviemore on Loch Morlich. It's spectacular!

Love Glenmore at Aviemore and Noble wood at Grange over Sands. We need EHU in a forest which is harder to come by.
