Campsite recommendation??

I have a Go Pod with an awning that my dog and I would like to take to Pembrokeshire later this month. Does anyone have any campsite recommendations? Ideally it would be next to the coast path, have a small shop, electric hookup, sheltered and walking distance of a sandy and swimmable beach. Not down too many narrow twisty lanes as I'm not great at reversing yet! Normally go to Watergate Bay near Newquay but Pembrokeshire would be easier to get to this time and just as beautiful if I remember correctly!

I've been to a site at St Davids but it was very exposed and I accidentally drove the trailer into the field tap and destroyed it as we left so I don't think I dare go back there 😒. I am normally a good driver except when my period starts and I lose all spatial awareness!

I don’t know Wales for camping… but looked up your GoPod, they look fantastic!

Me too.

No-one is going to answer your question OP as we'll all fall in love with the GoPod and fall into a Google rabbit hole!

Just get the searchforsites app (costs about £5 per year) it lists all the CAMC and CCC club sites and CL's (small sites ~5 pitches), independent sites. You should be able to find something pretty easily that way.

Are you in the CAMC or CCC?

I would make sure you find out how to download maps for the area you are going on Pembrokeshire because while your mobile phone will (should) continue to get the GPS signal I find the mobile signal coverage is very poor so when your phone can't download the maps it needs as you drive along so you end up with a blue dot on your phone and nothing else. Maybe you have a satnav - they have their advantages.

The Pembroke coastline is beautiful. I didn't camp near the coast though. Locals will tell you dogs disappear over the cliff every year - there are points where you definitely need your dog on a lead but it's not everywhere - depends on how mad your dog is.

Thank you everyone! I've checked out campsites.co.uk and earmarked a couple but thought a personal recommendation would be helpful.,

@BoudiccaOfSuburbia and @FollowTheFuckingInstructions the GoPod is an amazing little caravan although I would have to love another person very very much to share it as its smaller than it seems! Just big enough for the dog and me overnight which is why I am hoping to put up the awning on this occasion.

@larkstar I used to be in the Caravan and Camping Club but not for about 10 years - tbh I always found the non CCC sites nicer! The memories of one lady clearly a stickler for the rigid rules on the Saunton Sands site shouting 'dog not on lead dog not on lead' as said dog jumped out of the car to join me with said lead will live with me forever!

@blobby10 ha! Yes I've encountered a few Basil Fawlty type site managers on both CAMC and CCC. I agree there are some great lovely small independent sites - I'm at Burtonhill site now just outside Malmesbury - 5 min walk into town and to Waitrose and miles of great dog walking from the door.

That site sounds lovely - I will put it on my list for a weekend break visit! Have a lovely time xx

Is EHU a necessity? If not, I highly recommend Nolton Haven Bay and Becks Bay. Both have shops, aren’t too exposed and are within walking distances of lovely beaches and the coastal path.

Forgottenmyphone · 01/05/2024 10:54

And Becks Bay doesn’t involve any single track, narrow lanes.

I have used this site for years, they have loads of campsites listed, and lots of information about each. Also very easy to use filters

https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/

I've used that website for ages and it's great for choosing but you have to read the reviews. Some people give a high rating because the rules aren't enforced and they had a great time singing and partying all night.
